You know what it's like - the more you look at something the harder it is to see. Well I have looked and looked and cannot see why these columns do not go in the right places!

http://www.idealweddingplanner.co.uk I have stripped it down to the bare stuff in order to try and sort this problem out.

Css

.left { margin-right: 10px }
.right { margin-left: 10px }
.small { font-size: 9px;}

#container{
width:800px;
text-align:left; /*center hack*/
padding:0px;
overflow: hidden;
margin: 0 auto;
background-image: url(../images_default/bgcontainer.jpg);
}

#header {
font-size: 2em;
font-weight: bold;
padding-top: 4px;
padding-left: 18px;
color: #9D1B00;
background-image: url(../images_default/bgheader.jpg);
background-repeat:no-repeat;
}

#leftside {
float: left;
overflow: hidden;
width: 160px;
overflow: hidden;
margin-left:10px;
padding-top: 50px;
background-color:#FFFFFF;
background-image:url(../images_default/bgleftside.jpg);
background-repeat:no-repeat;
}

#main {
width: 630px;
padding-left: 8px;
float: right;
overflow: hidden;
}

.menu{
height: 12px;
}

a.menu:link, a.menu:visited {
display: block;
color: #9D1B00;
padding: 3px 3em 3px 6px;
text-decoration: none;
border: 1px #9D1B00 none;
font-weight: bold;
margin-bottom: 2px;
}

a.menu:hover, a.menu:hover {
background: #F0EBE8;
border-right: 5px #9D1B00 solid;
color: #CEBAAF;
}

#footer_top{}

#footer {
text-align: center;
margin-top: 4px;
border-top: 2px #9D1B00 dotted;
}

#footer_bottom{
background-color: #FFFFFF;
width:800px;
background-image: url(../images_default/bgfooter.jpg);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: bottom;
}

/*############# End custom template #############*/

A:link { text-decoration: underline; color: #2266AA; }
A:link:hover { color: #665740; }
A:visited { text-decoration: underline; color: #2266AA; }
A:visited:hover { color: #665740; }

BODY
{
font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 12px;
color: #000000;
text-align:center; /*center hack*/
background-color: #A33D09;
background-image: url(../images_default/background.gif);
padding: 0em;
margin-top: 0;
}

html

WelcomeWhat's New

This is where the main content of the site will be going. It should be level with the top of the left column

It is probably something really simple and somthing really stupid that I've done! Grateful for any help!

Don't pad major major

Don't pad major major elements, along with width declarations; you are adding to the overall width, always be aware of your box model.

In this instance why are you floating #main? try just adding left margin equal or slightly greater than the left column width and remove any width on #main, also you don't need to be setting overflow hidden everywhere.

I tend to only worry about the major major elements , as major elements tend to be of a lower consequence, although mini minor majorish type elements can also present problems as can majorly minorish elements although being a minorish offset by a majorish one usually means that they will level out to minor minor majorical.

Avatar changed!

I did it on FF! But it's not staying, it was just to prove a point.

What do you mean it looks the same - it's a duck!

Log out and log back in again. Though I did that last night after I'd changed it, and it hadn't changed and I logged in to answer here and there it was! Smile Mihir and Tony were having more trouble than Flash Gordon's sister last night.

Oooh! Well not anymore it

:blushing: Oooh! Well not anymore it isn't. I'm very confused. Last night it told me my changes had been saved but didn't actually show the change to the duck.

Today at work I logged on briefly and there was the duck! Hence my comment above.

I just went to my account to change it back to the daisy and the daisy beat me to it - it was there.

I think Mr Tony did it. Either that or the forum ghost. Tongue

Hmm, I'm seeing what might pass for a duck on a foggy moonless night.

I checked with animation on. At least it doesn't creep me out as did that Audrey II wannabe. Wink

cheers,

gary

Well yes, I did! I just force refreshed and there's the duck! But how can that be? When I close FF it supposedly clears everything - I've got all the boxes ticked. :? How come it's giving me the new bits of the thread but the old pictures when the script must say "here, use this new picture"
