your site is amazing, css bods!!!!
thank you, you have already been a wonderful help.
i have included all the code to my problem below. i do not know what is meant by putting it in "code tags", sorry if it isn't Sad (i just found out after looking at my post!!!!) sorted.
please, if you have time, could someone help me out on the thing below? i am very new to css but love it and want to keep tables out of the equation Smile

i have read that absolute positioning is not the way to go for a newby. so i am endevouring to remove it. problem is, i have changed "#index-RH-top_pic" to relative but had to give it a huge negative top placement so it goes back where i wanted. this is true of a number of other elements. it seems to work. is this a problem or is it ok to have negative values like this? do i need to include more containers in the page so things sit nicer together or should i be keeping the div's to a minimum?

also, the border around "#container" is set as absolute. i couldn't find any other way of keeping it where i wanted. is this a good idea?
using DW CS3 Mac Intel.

since you have so many

since you have so many images, it would be a lot easier if you had a link for us to look at.

Edit by Triumph - URL removed.

i have uploaded the site for you.
had a look in IE6. the "#container" border is not working correctly.
i was expecting it to look a lot more messed up than it is though Smile
i'm really unsure as to how to get the border sorted.
many thanks

i am having the experience

i am having the experience you have when you play with magnets. sometimes they all bunch up together, one whizzes across because it is attracted to the other. if you turn one magnet around it repels another 3.
it is like this with my divs. they are all repelling and attracting each other in ways that i do not want, depending on the positional settings.

apologies for my post before. this is a payed job for me and it is important to get this sorted.

I tried to warn you too but I'm in my basement barricading the doors. I'm checking all my supplies to make sure there are no Vienna Sausages in there. :scared:

And this is our problem because?I wrote something similar and then erased it due to the apology. Imagine if we got a cut of the pay from all of the "professionals" we've saved over the years.

A good idea would be to

A good idea would be to actually get some proper content in the page.

If the whole site is image-based, you may as well just stick one whole image on the page and be done with it.

Have you viewed your site with styles disabled, or images turned off?

i notice my message from before has been deleted by someone.
hi. thank you for your reasonable response.
this is just the index page. it is a swimwear company. there is more content to go on there and further content in the rest of the site. i have managed to get the layout sorted.
i just don't trust this site due to the comments posted by the moderators and elders. apologies to those of you that are not involved.
i presume this post will be deleted aswell.
it is a shame there is such small mindedness in the world.

I think the link was deleted

I think the link was deleted as there was no warning of what it was Wink Many of us browse at work, you don't want things like that popping up on your work screen Laughing out loud

it was my actual message

it was my actual message that was deleted. there were no links in it. that's a fair point, i take that on board as it could cause someone hassle at work although it is only a swim wear company. what i cannot come to terms with is the childish prejudicial behaviour of some of the moderators and elders here. i came here thinking this was a professional site and, with my first post, was greeted with humour at someone elses expense. then, after i replied to the first malicious post, i was countered with another unwelcoming message. then more later on. really, it would have been better for those that weren't interested in helping to just not post.

there's no need. it was

there's no need. it was basically me saying that i thought the responses were immature and unfriendly. also that i expected more from a site such as this. nothing abusive. just that i didn't want to be associated with a site that treats their patrons in this way.

well, you're more then welcome to request a refund.
swimwear or not. I sit at work and when I check this forum, guys in skimpy underwear/swimwear is not something i appreciate popping up on my screen.

If you find out posts immature, that's fine. But we also find it extremely rude to have that kind of imagery in our faces without some sort of warning.

Adrian, I can't explain why your post was deleted, I certainly didn't remove it. If you repost the link, I'll remove these OT comments, add a NSFW warning and we can start over, and help fix your problems Wink

thank you, that would be

thank you, that would be very much appreciated.
i feel a little strange calling you pineapple head though.
the link is:
wettackle.groovyproductions.com.au

i have progressed a little further with the page now. my aim is to get this finished and then use the generic parts to create a template for the rest of the site.
i have more understanding now of css layout but still a little unsure. it would be of great help if you could have a look at my coding and advise me of the correctness. i am programming in DW and have run the page test to report no errors.
i have floated:left the menu bar items. this seems to be affecting the top line of the text on window resizing somehow. it's the way that float affects other items on the page that i don't really understand.
the semi-opaque BG is a png. i have discovered that it's better to make it 20px X 20px rather than 1px X 1px for screen refresh speeds. do you suggest anything else to speed up the screen redraw in IE?
thank you once again for your time.

You've got a lot of

You've got a lot of redundant CSS in there Wink

Have you run it through the W3C validator yet? If not, do so, make sure it's all valid (the HTML and CSS) and let us know when it's all valid and ready.
