Hi folks I'm not allowed to put this up in site checks because it's not really tidy. I haven't addressed SEO, or got a site meter or got around to rewriting the newsletter page as a list. But I need to know what else you think needs doing please.
C'mon! You've put up with me for 5 months! You must have something to say
Edit/ Oops! A link would help
Hello folks Well I
Hello folks
Well I didn't get to meet the c'tee on 9 Feb but was told this week that they want the site and would like it up asap. They're still dithering about the banner (which is why it's different on the home page) but it will go up and then they will decide about rewrite for CMS etc.
Soooo... I didn't get any comments on my post above, but I need your help please.
1) I have rewritten the newsletter page but did browser shots yesterday and none of them like the 2-day date on the definition list at the bottom of the MAY dates. It only seems to work in IE6 and FF.
2) What do we feel about meta tag "keywords"? yes or no?
3) I would like a visitor tracker (free) - suggestions please?
4) Text breaks out of boxes and menu if using mousewheel or ctl+ but copes better with the view>increase - are we worried about this?
My thanks as always

'Grats on the good news. Go with the narrower header. The wide one has problems with smaller browser windows.

Not a show stopper, but get Opera and Safari and get it fixed.

Google pretty much ignores the keyword meta tag. Do write a short, to the point description, as that's what Google shows as the page summary when available. The content, itself, should contain a good salting of key search terms. Google these terms, "gap under images" and "enclosing floats". You will see my pages come up #3 and #2 respectively. The pages have been up only 4 or 5 weeks, and have no PR. I believe it's due to good key word usage and a good use of search terms in the description. I can't think of any other reason for top of page one search results.

Google analytics. But, do you really need tracking, or is it just the kewl thing to do?

I'm usually satisfied with ±2 steps. Yours seem to pass that OK.

Hi Gary
'Grats on the good news. Go with the narrower header. The wide one has problems with smaller browser windows.
Thanks, we will see However I hadn't noticed how the 'big' banner breaks down - they're both the same size 800x180 - probably my mucking around with it for demo purposes.

I will adjust the double date DL and see if it helps but there's obviously something else at play here as well. Most noticable on the divider lines on the newsletter page when resizing. Sometimes a scroll bar, sometimes a 1px gap of background. Do you mean download Opera and Safari for Windows?

So I should write a description pertinent to each page? I had noticed on our existing site that it will show up (with a description) on Google's first page if you search on 'Spiritualism' - however I can't find this description in the site code! Where would it be getting it from? Good-oh on your own search results though

Had wondered if Google Analytics was the way to go. Kewl or not - we currently have no ideawho's visiting, if they're visiting or where they're from and where they're going, or what visitors are looking at. I would certainly like to know for instance if visitors are using the newsletter page and if they are reading the articles.

Whew! (wipes brow) I know it should be able to cope with one more, but it won't happen because I have to have width on those bits.
Thanks Gary!
