Ok, so I made a site blah blah blah but I'm having trouble with the layout... I made it using Tables and iframes, it all works except for my iframe positioning here is my style sheet:

#left {position:absolute;
left: 275px;
top: 200px;
width: 150px;
height: 1000px;
}
#right {position:absolute;
left: 675px;
top: 200px;
width: 150px;
height: 1000px;
}
#top {position:absolute;
left: 275px;
top: 0px;
width: 700px;
height: 200px;
}

A:link
{ text-decoration: value; [none] color:#ffffff; }
A:visited
{ text-decoration: value; [line-through] color:#ffffff; }
A:active
{ text-decoration: value; [italic] color:#ffffff; }
A:hover
{ text-decoration: value; [line-through] color:#ffffff;

background-image: url(http://usera.imagecave.com/ninkom/Icedsquiggles/isbg.png);
background-color: #000000;

body
{ background: #000000;
background-image: url(value); [http://usera.imagecave.com/ninkom/Icedsquiggles/isbg.png]
background-repeat: value; [repeat]
background-position: valueI valueII; [valueI:center]
[valueII: center]
background-attachment: value; [scroll]

font-family: value; [verdanda]
color: #000000 ;
letter-spacing: value; [3pt]
font-weight: value; [bold]
font-size: value; [x-small]

{ background: #ffffff;
font-family: value; [arial]
color: #000000;
border-style: value; [dashed]
border-color: #000000;
border-width: valuepx; [3] }

Ok, so i linked to that style sheet via this page:

We have ANOTHER member of staff.... RECE, she will do odd jobs-such as relaying messages, news posting, keeping track of work and similar stuff, again, thanks! ,
which is really helpful to us because not many people enjoy that job...
So thank you, also thanks to raven who has made lots of graphics already!

Title: HORAAH

FINALLY, the place is coded! *cheers*, and welcome to our new staff member...*drumroll* RAVEN!
I hope you enjoy the lack of content in this site lol, we hope to get it done by the end of the week (end if my half term) but you never know!

but if you view the page you see that the iframes aren't positioning I've looked everywhere for a solution... please help!

Above comments

Above comments notwithstanding, your coding technique is straight out of the arc, but it might help if you give the elements you wish to target 'id's and not 'name's.

#left goes with id="left"

.left goes with class="left"

name="left" is not for use with CSS.

hi

What do you mean ALL the code.. that is all the code... and i'm trying to position my iframes.. the problem is that the positioning code is having no effect at all.. I want it to end up with the banner at the top center with the left and right coloums either side underneat like a three coloum CSS really... oh and with the updates table in the middle..

That is not all the code, or

That is not all the code, or if it is, it is horribly invalid.

cheers,

gary

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

A browser does its best to

A browser does its best to interpret the code that you write, and in order to have the best chance of seeing in the browser what you intended to see, everyone (you and the browser manufacturers) needs to work to the same standards of HTML or XHTML. It's as basic to web design as bricks are to a house, or cells are to a body.

If you code your pages correctly then the result will be VALID code. If not you will end up with INVALID code which each different browser will do it's best to guess at what you were trying to achieve with regards to position and styling. They will guess but you will end up with different guesses and lots of problems.

CSS is a very complex subject as it is, with enough browser bugs to cause us all problems regardless of HTML issues. Thus if you want our help then we demand that you at least get your (X)HTML right before we start spending our valuable time trying to help with your CSS.

So, learn your craft. Learn HTML or XHTML and validate (check) it and correct it first (100%) before you even attempt to try and sort out your CSS problems.

Use Google. Try these pages for starters:

You seem to be lacking in

You seem to be lacking in the most basic knowledge of how to construct a page for the web. Unless you know exactly what you are doing (which you clearly don't), your page needs a doctype, head section and body section, as well as lots of other things missing from your code. You need to start at the very beginning with a basic tutorial about HTML or XHTML.

immytwig - I'm not spending my time making these posts because I'm bored or like to belittle people - I've far better things to do with my time than that. I'm trying to help you. Unless you take the time to read a few tutorials, you will forever be chasing snags that you haven't a clue how to fix. You'll be on a hiding to nothing. Trust me - we were all unknowledgeable novices once you know Wink
