Hi,
can someone see what the problem is with http://www.alphaworks.co.uk/test/msie7_problem.html ? It renders fine in FireFox but is a mess in MSIE 7. Have I made a mistake or is there an issue with MSIE 7?

Thanks,
Geoff

And a second FF vs MSIE problem, this time FF misbehaves!

http://www.alphaworks.co.uk/test/table_problem.html

To see the problem click on the link, it seems related to it being initially hidden, if I make it initially visible there is no problem

Thanks!

Get your html valid, to

Get your html valid, to start with. Stop using tables for layout and stop using deeply nested DIVs as you have. The page is a mess (both pages actually) and it's no wonder browsers are having trouble.

Learn about semantic coding practices which will make design much simpler and easier overall and save you tons and tons of time.

You don't really even have a page yet. You can't design pages in a vacuum, and you shouldn't even be thinking of how things will look until you have some actual content marked up in valid, semantic html.

And stop using transitional doctypes for new pages. Use STRICT doctypes always, unless trying to bring an old tag-soup page closer to modern standards.

Following these practices will save you tons of time in the end.

And to reiterate, for CSS to work you MUST have VALID html. There is no CSS standard for invalid html.
