Javascript and applets

The first link is to something I built that works fine. It involves javascript, html and an external style sheet.

The next link is to an attempt to use javascript to control the parameter values in an applet. As you can see, it's not working. (I hope it's obvious what I'm trying to do.) If anyone knows or can figure out how to get this to work, I'd be very interested. (I'm not sure if I'm even close).
