I posted once before on this but thought I'd try again, please excuse the persistence but this should be of benefit to all.

see this url:
http://relatebase.com/development/css/tbl_widths.php

I want extra long text to just disappear off the right edge. If you declare the height, width, and overflow:hidden for an element, you should be able to force that.

But I find (in IE anyway) it only works for a div tag, not a td tag. If I nest the long text in a div it works, but I'd prefer not to.

Any way to make this work for a <td> tag?

And also, is there any way for Javascript to "detect" that overflow has occurred, i.e. that a cell's text has gone past the right edge?

Thanks,
Sam
