A standard feature for desktop programs when you can adjust the column width (or it's fixed) and text can't wrap is that the text will be truncated, the end will have .. added, and mousing over it will produce an alt value showing the entire text.

Is there any way to do this with CSS? I'm thinking about adding javascript to dynamically resize columns complete with the mouse turning into a sizer arrow, and wondered if anyone has done this or if css can handle the .. thing automatically (in an elegant way).
