Hi,

I'm designing a very small site for a group to which I belong. I wanted to try using a horizontal menu just for something different. I used the code from Listamatic. It is exactly the way I want it in IE, but in Firefox the menu drops down into the content area, with some white space showing above it. I would like the menu to be snug up against the bottom of the header image.

Link to the site:

The HTML and CSS both validated. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. If someone with more expertise than I would be so kind as to take a look at it, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

P.S. The links on the page don't go anywhere now; I'm just trying to get a template designed, the content will go in later, and the site will be elsewhere anyway.

Horizontal menu problems in Firefox

Try changing...

Quote:
#menu ul {
padding-left: 0;
margin-left: 0;
background-color: #003399;
color: #fff;
float: left;
width: 100%;
font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
}

To...

Quote:
#menu ul {
padding-left: 0;
margin: 0;
background-color: #003399;
color: #fff;
float: left;
width: 100%;
font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
}

Horizontal menu problems in Firefox

YOu may wish to give each of the list items a width of 125 px, (or slightly less if you want to keep the white edge).

This is just from an aestheticly pleasing point of view - it would look better if all the boxes are the same size.

Horizontal menu problems in Firefox

Thanks, you are right, but when I tried it, 125px was not wide enough for one of the headings and it bounced it to two lines. I might try to talk the RC (my boss for the purposes of this project) into changing the name of that tab and making it shorter. If I do, I'll try to even them out. We also might be adding another tab or two.

I do want to leave the white lines in. The preponderance of our audience for this site is older, unsophisticated users, many of whom run AOL. *shudder* We're trying to keep it as simple-stupid as possible. They had to talk me out of PHP using the strongest terms possible. Laughing out loud It was overkill for a six-page site, I admit it now.

Thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated! Laughing out loud
