Well done Hugo,
10000 posts is a remarkable achievement.
Thanks so much for all the time, effort and support you have given to the community.
Thanks, it seems like only
Thanks, it seems like only yesterday that I was amazed at reaching 500
So I was thinking a nice new star would look good
We both muffed it!
Bummer! We both muffed it! I forgot to check the time difference after all and have just seen that I posted too early, you were supposed to be on BST so the time difference would be 8.5 hours– and YOU were supposed to hold off till today - it took me ages to find that ruddy banner maker!!
Still... when I left you had just hit 9999 and I was hoping you had to go out for the rest of the day so you would be away from the computer and wouldn't be tempted...what happened? Age getting to you?
Gee how'd you know,
Don't be fooled by my because
...I think.
Oh alright then...about a month ago I ran across an old birthday thread in my forum travels, noted it was about a month away and also noticed your post count. I idly thought something akin to " wonder if he'll hit 10k posts by his birthday?". Did some sums and saw that it would be, IIRC, about 40 a day, so thought "nah, too many what a shame" and forgot about it.
Then last Thursday I noted the post count was 9982 and it came together with early July and triggered, so I hunted up the thread again and thought "dammit! He's going to do it!!!" When you started eking out the posts by Friday - and Tyssen was so obligingly riding ramrod for you, whether or not he knew it - I knew I was right.
It is quite a milestone.
I was trying to save my 10,000 till after midnight to have two celebrations.
Loving the banners. I'm
Loving the banners.
I'm going to call you Mrs Sherlock Holmes from now on
I was holding back the posts, but forgot

Just as well! Strange how I found some perfectly suitable ones in my collection - apart from which, it probably saves me from Mr. Tony's ire in totally destroying this thread and the tenor and decorum of his forum with unforgivably large coloured pictures
I'm going to call you Mrs Sherlock Holmes from now on![]()
Mrs? Sherlock? Are you even sure I'm one or the other? Fish, fish.
I was holding back the posts, but forgot
Yes, I'd roll my eyes too if I were you... Gawd, he waits 3 days and blows it in the last...what?...hour?
Just to keep you suitably abashed though, here's another little tidbit:
Do you realise that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.
"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.
You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.
"How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . You BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50
And your dreams are gone.
But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.
You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!
You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90's, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!
(George Carlin's view of ageing apparently, whomsoever he might be)
I'm 21 in September Whooo
I'm 21 in September

Time to spread a bit of the fuss around I think...
While Hugo has been the first to reach the 10k milestone there are several other moderators well on their way and you never know, I might be around to help celebrate those too.
You take no prisoners you lot And neither should you. No apologies are needed because if one gets past the front gate there is brilliant help available in abundance.
I volunteered to rewrite a website at the beginning of March. I struggled in coming to grips with things as many do, but persevered until May when I had about 4 requests for decisions outstanding with the powers that be – not least of which was space on the current server. So I became a bit despondent, slowly started to grind to halt, visited 2 or 3 three forums and then found CSS Creator.
And I started to read - the stickies, the threads, the links, the archives. Used Search and found things to try. And guess what? Slowly but surely, you all strengthened my resolve to finish what I had started - for me, because I wanted to.
So to all the mods and gurus, here's one heartfelt thank you.
Thank you for your time, knowledge and experience so willingly and generously given. Thank you for enjoying the forum, and what you do here, enough to bring your hard won expertise back tomorrow and sort us all out again
Don't forget to show up! We need you

Like the Garlin quote, I decided to halt things at round 26 sort of thought that was fine and quite old enough, and didn't need to think about age any more and had never been much good at behaving in a po faced adult manner, suites me quite fine
Of course I knew it was Ms S. Holmes , I'm handy with the deductive powers as well, and note the subtle nuances in threads ..er or was it all the blond moments that gave the game away
As for taking prisoners, we tend to be a little harsh yet this is somewhat of late rather than always been the way, the forum principle and ethos was always to be one that wasn't haughty or too formal with the rules, a light-hearted place with hopefully some occasional good humoured banter, it's why I put the effort in and what was always understood that Tony wished of his forum community.
It is necessary though to impose certain conditions and to be a little strict with those really , by and large they are designed to enable the smooth, swift, accurate help offered and are little to ask of people so it's especially irksome when a few can't seem to be bothered to make that little bit of initial effort in return for the help offered by a dozen or more minds that grasp the subject
Although I wasn't around on
Although I wasn't around on the day (monday here), congrats hugo on the birthday, and hooray for the 10k posts too.
Wait, do I have my priorities the wrong way around? lol.
The mods have done lots of great work on here, and although I havn't been here long myself, the help received has been greatly appreciated, and the other advice given is good too.
Hopefully hugo had a good one on the day?

vast wealth of coding knowledge.
On that note I really wish I could claim so, sadly it be far from the truth , too much still to learn.
Nice to hear
Thanks for giving more effort in this committy and hope u will continuee in future. Eventhough I am new in this community but like to be know like U .
Thanks Again !!!
Happy Belated Birthday
Happy Belated Birthday indeed Hugo! Hope you're well.
July is an awesome month to have a birthday in, but sorry you just missed out on being a Leo (I'm the 29th ).
Thank you also for all your advice and CSS help. I sometimes feel a little pointless in this forum as I tend to post a lot but never really talk technical. If your familiar with Star Trek Voyager, I kind of feel like Neelix, that pointless one who just chimes in with nonsense from time to time. Still, I'm constantly absorbing all the advice you give out and really appreciate the effort you put in.
Thank you, and congratulations on the 10'000 mark. I foreward the notion Hugo needs another star!
P.S. Don't pretend you didn't love the Faux Columns - Scooby Doo analogy
John
Ah, Leo's, always succeed,
Ah, Leo's, always succeed, full of confidence.
Neelix was a valuable member of the crew and in fact had a subtle and important role , he? was the moral officer, when the crew needed cheering up it was "Neelix, party time please"
Every crew needs one!
Talking technical is not always helpful or conducive to understanding, there was/is an adage? that goes something along the lines of "If something can't be expressed in lay speak that all can grasp it in fact does not have form and can't be judged to be 'true'" The great Faraday also held to this axiom? and was supposed to to fly into a fury when mathematicians would only understand his theorizing when they had managed to translate it into mathematical formula, he pointed out to them that it was they who were in ignorance as they weren't able to grasp plain language, but I digress mightily (as usual)
Faraway... £20 : £20 vision?
~Hmmm... Faraday. Scientist dude who was known for his experimental methods? Ended up on our £20 notes for a while? Awesome! Though if I remember correctly, didn't he not have much of an educated background and consequently couldn't do the maths himself? He probably just found it extremely frustrating to hear things he came up with, no longer making sense to him!
(How did I do? Were you convinced, or is it painfully obvious I just spent the last 10 minutes on Wikipedia reading about him)?
But yes, I like to take myself back to step one everytime I try and explain something which works well when your talking slowly and clearly to someone trying to learn English, or explaining to your girlfriend the science behind a thunder storm. Not so good in programming though, specifics are kind of a necessity
John

Sounds about right, so here's my last birthday contribution – because I happen to think it's a pretty good list –
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out non-essential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them!"
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county, to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity. AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Backatcha! You weren't so far off with the dual personality...I'm a Gemini! I have the attention span of a gnat...with occasional moments of brilliance I might add *preens*..but since they're only occasional, it's going to be a long haul guys *grin*.
Cancerians are the rockingest people on the zodiac.
Oops! Sounds like another one to me
Nah we're just crabby
Yup! That too. But they're softies just the same

Ramrod? Sounds like something Roger Ramjet goes fishing with.![]()
And you're right: I had no idea I was doing whatever I was doing.
LOL! It was a fluke Tyssen - you just seemed to be handling everything in your usual inimitable way which just happened to be handy for Hugo I thought
Cheers Tyssen , ridding ramrod though :? should that not perhaps have been 'shotgun'? although I hadn't noticed either
Probably.. . I am occasionally stuck for words.
Gah! This is taking forever....
Pssst Gary - turn on the animations - you won't ever sleep again! LOL!

Never claimed I could spell! looked right and in me brain it read as morrel, dam that's a mushroom, well however it's spelt.
Lets go on a 'trip'
Well the moral officer is doing his job ensuring morals are left at the door if there are now Mushrooms at the party!!
And I can't spell either. When I originally put my last post up I had written 'assuring morals', so I had to go back in to edit it to say 'ensuring'.

He certainly was a dude, considered quite brilliant for a self educated man. Your probably right he just got annoyed, but the point was they tended to refuse to comprehend until it was transfered to their mode of language, he correctly pointed out that it already made sense in a fashion that all could grasp, good on him.

I did not bring up the subject of mushrooms in conjunction with parties.. er oops yes I did :? we''ll avoid that topic then
May I 'present' you with...
It's so strange because I was always just ignorant and naive about so much. Then about a month or two ago, the thirst hit me. Next thing I know I'm reading everything I come across and aquiring as much knowledge as possible. This morning for example I read about the Bayeaux Tapesty (forgive the spelling), and have you ever heard of Michel Thomas who is world famous for his audio language courses? Well having read a little about him on Wikipedia, I discovered he's this absolutely amazing war hero and went straight on to buying his Biography.
So yes, I completely agree with you, it's all about Knowledge!
By the way, I made you a present

I used to think the same of people. As a child, I had penpals all over the world and that was my way of learning. Cultures, languages, psychology. I loved it, but much like yourself with books, I refused to do it via E-mail. Yes I could recieve 4 photos, and a typed up e-mail in 5 minutes for free, rather then an illegible scrap of paper with a torn photo and a stamp for the equivalent of £2 which had taken a fortnight to get to me, but I've never felt the excitement of seeing that envelope on the doorstep from an E-mail!

Right again, since intelligence doesn't always equal knowledge anymore than knowledge equals intelligence - it's wisdom and curiosity that makes the difference...think I'd better stop now, this is getting too deep for me

You can have some of mine, never felt a great need for most of it, most overrated. Sense of Responsibility, that's a different kettle of fish, got that part of it and that matters most, as for the rest I've happily acted like a good natured child for the most part of my life
Which floor sir?
Sense of Responsibility? Is that the one where you admit it was you when the air turns foul in a lift, or refrain from thumping the snotty cashier when he finally acknowledges you after a half hour personal phone call only to tell you the tills stopped serving five minutes ago? Better add that to my shopping list.
With regards to the first example, I always admit it was me, only I do so by way of uncontollable school-girlish giggles. But I'm guessing that isn't 'taking responsibility' :?
