Hello -
Could I request some comments on how the page looks in PC browsers as I've made this on a mac. Also, looking for some constructive criticism.

On IE6, there is a blue

On IE6, there is a blue background to the Philip Gould Fine Furniture logo that isn't there in these PC browsers:

Safari
Firefox
Opera
IE7

Otherwise the page looks identical

It looks like you're using 32-bit PNGs which IE<=6 won't like. Resave them as 24- or 8-bit and you'll be OK.

Also the middle dark grey box is higher than the boxes on the side in IE6 whereas it's lower in FF and Opera.

Pity about that guy's name, eh (apologies if that's you)?

CT left off the ] from his opening quote which had rather nasty side effects.

And yes, it is an Aussie thing.

Not really. Phil Gould is an uber-annoying NRL commentator and was also NSW origin coach for 8 years.

Could someone please check

Could someone please check the homepage for me again in ie6 for PC? I've changed the .png logo (name) to 256 colours 8bit and applied a 'fix' - its working in my ie5.5mac. Also is the tag in the bottom left "concept and craftsmanship" showing colour?

http://philipgould.com.au/
following is the fix style sheet and the fix code.

img.pngfix { behavior: url(pngHack.htc); }

:shrug:

Thanks

I like the colour

I like the colour combination of your site. Im using Firefox 2.0 and the links seem to be indented when they are in link state and when i click on them they then move to the left.

The design as a whole needs more work. have you got a screen shot of what it looks like on a mac? it seems like its all floating and does have a structure.

Hi- Thanks for the feedback

Hi- Thanks for the feedback - did you mean to say the whole site looks like its floating and lacks something because of that? Initially I was asked to rework an old website - the colours were quite dark so he asked that I lighten it up - thus the light background - I was hoping that the absence of colour would draw attention to the pictures of the furniture. Did you look any further into the site? What are you thinking when you mention structure - perhaps send a link to a site that illustrates the point so I can see what you mean. Yes - the links move - as of yet I have not really discovered the source of this strange behaviour. here is a screenshot on mac.

No, still not right, neither the image in the top left ('Philip Gould...') or bottom right 'concept and craftsmanship'. You don't need to apply javascript fixes for those images - just export them without alpha transparency (index transparency is OK) and you won't have a problem.

There's also a mistake with your IE conditional comment - < ![endif]--> is showing on screen (remove the gap between the < and !).

Hmmm - I'm not sure what you

Hmmm - I'm not sure what you mean by export without alpha transparency. The logo was made in illustrator 10 - saved for web as png-8, transparency. There are no export as png options. Perhaps you are using flash or similar? I have saved a copy of the logo as png-8, transparency, no trans dither, matte=my background colour to see how that works, but I came across this http://bjorkoy.com/past/2007/4/8/the_easiest_way_to_png/
and wonder if this will work - seems more straight forward than the other hack. I have implemented it and wonder if you or another could see if this one works?
cheers

I'd use a different software package for exporting your web graphics then cos I've just downloaded the graphics and opened it in Fireworks (which is designed for creating web graphics, Illustrator's not) and the image is a 32-bit PNG with alpha transparency. IE6 doesn't handle these. Re-export the graphics in the correct format and you won't need to bother with any 'fixes'.

In fact, I've done it for you and they're attached to this post.

Images look fine. The only

Images look fine. The only other thing you need to do is change this:

html>body #banner { height:130px }

to this:

#banner { height:130px }

because IE6 needs to get the height too.

When I say 'the only thing', your CSS could do with a lot of revision because all the html>body declarations are probably unnecessary, the voice family hacks are outdated (and also unnecessary if you're not really concerned with IE5 on Windows) and you'd be better using floats instead of absolute positioning for your columns.

I'll get on to it - I made

I'll get on to it - I made the site after my first css tutorial and I realise that it needs a revision. It has been good to find this site and get the criticism - otherwise the same mistakes are repeated over and over.
cheers :thumbsup:
