In the site I designed (well, just took an existing layout from a tutorial and changed the colors a bit) http://gmailerxp.sourceforge.net/ when the W3C HTML validation button is moused over, it shows like a shadow because I have that set that to a:hover. Any ideas how to fix it?

Also any comments, suggestions for improvments are welcome.

It's a png graphic so that area is tranparent, probably not happening in IE as it does not support Png Transparancy.
You could try changing your .validator class to :

.validator a {margin-top:-57px; float:right; background-color:transparent;}
that should stop it.

Thanks Hugo, that fixed it. Tested it locally..yet to modify the css on live site.
