http://www.eaglebayviews.com.au

As well as design and coding, I would really, really appreciate feedback on accessibility.
Things I'm aware of:

1. the site doesn't display fully in 800 x 600 - this was a conscious decision however, all text can be read, you just can't see the right column pictures in 800x600.

Thanks in advance

Hello Freddy

I was just viewing the site, changing from with-styles to without-styles a number of times. The thing looks fine either way. Text resize isn't a problem but there is one part of the pages where the text overlaps with the shell and becomes unreadable (just a small section).

In the bookings page, you have labels for your form elements but the elements do not have IDs-- well, many of them don't. I believe the relationship between a label and a form should be explicit-- at least that's what I know works (hee hee hee)-- such that one label's "for" should point to a form element with the corresponding "id".

It also helps to put an implicit label on input boxes through the value attribute.

Cheers! =)

--[edit]--

Additionally, I noticed that you have image links from the Inside "Serenity" section that go to a larger version of the image. If I may just make a suggestion. Why not just link the image to a page that gives a brief description of that part of the place? I was thinking that since the alt text says something like "upstairs living area", it might be a good idea to give a deeper description of that area along with a bigger image. A blind person would love to know what that area looks like too. But I guess that up to the writer or whoever manages the content.

Anyway... =)

I want to go there!

Hi Freddie -

That's a nice looking site. On FF2, I'm not seeing your right hand column images (which look nice on IE7).

Also, I do notice a black box at the top right of my screen beside the "Serenity" Link on both FF2 and IE7 on my laptop. It doesn't occlude that whole section of the header, just goes up about the top of the mountain there (about 111px).

Do you need the fixed width? Why not do a more fluid layout so that even at less than 800px wide, you still could see the options on the banner right hand side? Just a personal opinion. I like the lightbox on the home page.

I'm also seeing a little bit of the text at the bottom on top of the shell by the footer (the "walk from" on the home page, and it's occluding on the other pages as well).

I got a javascript syntax error on IE on line 110 when I went to the Rates page.

The best of luck - it looks nice overall - it does give the sense of "serenity."

Liz

Thanks

Hi Guys thanks for the responses so far

@Arielle - good to see you're still here, been a while for me.
Text and shell - yes I keep meaning to sort that.
Form labels, I have used the name attribute rather than ID as that is what the PHP requires, however, do you think i should add an ID as well - even if it just echos the name attribute?
Image links to seperate pages not lightbox - I charge by the page and the client wants to keep the costs minimal to start with, adding more if the site is successful for them later. But i do like the idea of larger, detailed decsriptions - thanks.

@Liz
No images on right in FF2? Strange I'm using FF1.5 (don't like FF2's tab closing) and all shows up fine. Home and Inside should have images on right - Location doesn't yet, they should all open in lightbox. Are they just not there at all, or chifted for some reason - appreciate the feedback
Javascript error on rates? Only Google analytics on there, will double check. - should be fixed now.
Black box - is that on right of main banner inamge? I design on 1600 x 1200 with a seperate screen at 1024 x 768 - if I'm guessing right, the black box is just a graphic I've used to spread the green and blue across the full 1600 x 1200 display - would appreciate your feedback on this as if it's something else it needs fixing, thanks.

@Nick
Good suggestion - removed other company name as they didn't want it displayed but yet to replace with eaglebayviews - will also look at idea of all navigation again.

Thanks all

"Form labels, I have used

"Form labels, I have used the name attribute rather than ID as that is what the PHP requires, however, do you think i should add an ID as well - even if it just echos the name attribute?"

Have you ever noticed that when a label points to an id-ed element, it acts as a button? Say, when a label "username" is associated with an input textbox with an "id" similar to the label's "for", focus shifts to the input textbox when you click on "username". It's a pretty nice trick-- works in both FF and IE.

And/Or, for accessibility purposes, it still is a good idea to put an implicit label to input textboxes through the value attribute. Never mind being redundant, it's useful for a person who really needs it.

Good luck with this project. And here's to hoping the client orders more pages! =)

RHS of banner...

Hi Freddie,

The site is looking better and better! I am now seeing the pictures on the right hand side of "home" and "inside" on FF2 and IE7 - the all look well in the lightbox - some great, clear photos!

I'm sorry to say, the right hand side of the banner is still a black box (actually dark gray) in both FF2 and IE7 for me. I defer the #main_image, html attributes to someone else who has more expertise than I (they are many on the forum Smile ). When I look at the background image (slice), on the main_image in that particular section, I see that it's a repeat x on the html tag, but I'm sorry Freddie, don't have the know-how to diagnose what's going on. I just commented on it, because I know it's helpful to get the viewpoint of people with different types of browsers.

-- edit - no js errors on the bookings page now..
I do repeat "name" and "id" on my forms - you're going to have to (plus you get a validation errors on that page - I'd fix 'em fast - you'll get slapped with a wet noodle here!). The reasons are many, well explained, and posted in the stickies on top of all the forums. If you want to stress accessible websites it'd be necessary.

Again, I'm new on forum and learning a great deal here and just hope this helped a little!

The best of luck! Like Arielle- I hope they order more pages as well!

Thanks again

@Arielle
Very nicely eaxplained mate - have done it and it also cleared up a few validation warnings.

@liz
Validation error fixed - was a tabindex in the wrong place, thanks for pointing it out - was wondering why my tabbing was going awry!
The repeated background image is there to stop the page cutting off when viewed in a larger reolution monitor. It's a shame it encroaches onto the 1024 x 768 - I will have to sort something out.
Very glad you like the pics, been doing a fair bit of photgraphy recently (hence my absence from these forums for a while) - hopefully the clear ones are the ones I took not the client! LOL.

Had our first booking today, pretty pleased as site has only been around a week also managed page 1 on google - it's off to a good start and the clients happy, I'm happier now these little niggles are being ironed out, thanks for all your input.

I think your header graphic

I think your header graphic needs some work - where the image ends and the two-colour bit begins is just too sharp. I think it could do with blending in (fading out) better.

Not sure how long ago that happened. There was a time there that the mods weren't identified as such so maybe I was last time you were here but you wouldn't have noticed. Haven't been around much the last few days cos my wife had a baby on the w/e! :ohdear:

My Only adivce is the TEXT TO KEYWORD RATIO

My Only adivce is the TEXT TO KEYWORD RATIO. For an even better SEO score work try to have a unique set of Keywords per page but more importantly the text to keyword ration on the page content and the use of H1, H2 and H3's help alot, as they hold a lot of value with keyword placement.

Other than that you have a pretty DAMN GOOD site lol. Be Proud

Cheers........
