Don't know if this will help or not, but have you noticed that your active state is doing what you want your hover state to do? I find this odd, since you didn't define the active state at all... perhaps a space too...

i've been told, that spaces shouldnt make a diffence as the code is read in one big line, but i have deleted the space to make for better house keeping as for the active and hover proforming the same task, i cant see why that would create the problem as two of the links in the div work, while the other two will not - for reasons best known to themselves
