I've seen a few comments around the web about this, but no solutions.

Here is the deal:

I have a bit of javascript on a page that changes a main image when you rollover a thumbnail. It works on all browsers I care about (Moz, IE5Mac IE6), but not Safari. Safari likes to scale any image to the width of the first image. Instead of taking the size of the image. Not cool.

I hope someone has seen this before and can point to a solution.

You can see this in action here:

Safari Streching Images - Bug? Workaround?

Seems to be fine for me in Safari (compared it to Firefox as well). All seems good.

Which version of Safari do you mean? I'm using the latest: 1.2.2

The next sentence is true. The previous sentence is false. Discuss...

Safari Streching Images - Bug? Workaround?

Hmmm...sounds like they might have patched Safari. I'm looking at it in Safari 1.2.1 (which is a pretty recent version) and the images in the first gallery get stretched - they should look about 30% narrower than the first image.

There are also a lot of mac heads on earlier verisions of Safari so I definitely need to develop for those versions.

thanks for checking it out! Would love to hear if others have encountered this.

Safari Streching Images - Bug? Workaround?

The problem you'll have is with Jaguar users who haven't upgraded I should expect. Panther users have a pretty easy option of updating Safari via Software Update (as long as the user has a (decent) Internet connection).

Safari 1.2.x won't work on Jaguar as far as I can remember.

Safari Streching Images - Bug? Workaround?

Oh, I know! Plus, nobody upgrades their browser anymore until they get a whole new operating system.
