Hi all
First post by me - password issues Smile

Any ways I am a web designer in Scotland. I have been designing site using CSS and Layers for a few years now and I think im pretty good at it. I mostly use CSS valided and XHTML validated but like every one in the world there may be a couple of very minor over looked coding mistakes in there.

Check out my site and tell me what you think. use my tools, get free fonts and the rest of the stuff there.

This is about the 30th site i have designed for my self using css

Hi Right at the bottom of

Hi

Right at the bottom of the home page, the last line has a link that overlfows onto the next (and last) line.

In IE, it's OK, in FF the last line's height is truncated by a few pixels.

I am new to CSS, but I am curious how....

you got those translucent plastic looking tabs and images. I have seen those rounded corner translucent things a lot and wondered if those are Photoshop generated or what?

Well, it sort of looks like loads of other sites I've seen (Mac OS/X-like). What do you think stands out to a new visitor and shouts 'golly I must buy off this guy'?

Apart from the name, that is. I'm sorry, barry reminds me of auf wiedersein pet (or however that's spelt). I almost expected a brummy accent wav file to play. Not that I'm dissing your name. Just what it conjures up in my head.

Hi, You have the wrong

Hi,

You have the wrong thumbnail displaying for the Gas Centre on the projects page and also when you follow the 'More Details' link, it shows the one for GS Motors.

Naughty

lol no problem

Ha ha
yes ive had a bit of stick about my chosen business title over the years

I do however get good local clients so really my name dosnt do bad for me.

In the current climate on the web it is not an easy thing to come up with an original design ( at least this is my point of view). I have redesigned my site almost 30 times in the past few years so maybe i have reverted back to the ole school look for this design.

I dont know

Any way i do like my design and i think it works pretty well for me

thanks for the review Smile

Times New Roman? Ew. Ditch

Times New Roman?

Ew.

Ditch it, it makes the site look amateur. Go with a nice sans-serif font.

And the most reviled hated one amongst the web typography cognoscenti, strangly. Something to do with it being badly proportioned and generally pants, which is annoying as I have found it the only one (commonly installed ) that looks good.

I think that if you want to

I think that if you want to be taken really seriously from a web developer/design point of view you should concentrate on that, some of those tools i.e html encoder are not to be taken seriously (maybe you ought to warn people that without javascript they will generate no code to display apart from your noscript link back to your site), also reciprocal link scripts smack of SEO trickery

Smile and as do many; it's just interesting that people adept in the field of web typography wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

I find a nice serif font quite soothing and easy to read. Smile I'm no big fan of Verdana

and you need a big fan to accomodate the size of that font face twice the size of Times!

Your dropdowns looked a bit

Your dropdowns looked a bit weird in FF2, so I went to look in IE6 to see if they were any different and they don't appear to work at all in IE6.

How to get help
Post a link. If you can't post a link, jsFiddle it.
