Setting #top-menu span to
Setting #top-menu span to display: block will make the border appear in IE7, but you really shouldn't be using a span and free floating anchors to create a navigation list anyway - you should use an unordered list.

don't know what i was thinking. i changed it to the unordered list and tweaked it further, its fine now. thanks for the link, btw
