I am volunteering to help with this website.. It's a mess, so first things first, I decided to make their menu text with css instead of images.

I made a vertical list with horizontal flyouts, but I can't seem to make it look the same in IE, Safari, and FF. If I position the sub-menu closer to the parent, then in Safari and FF it overlaps. But if I position it further away, in IE there's a gap. what am I doing wrong?

First things first, you need

First things first, you need a complete DTD to switch IE into Standards mode so either a url system identifier or change to a strict DTD.

Once that's done IE may well render things better but at least certain problems that can arise will be averted and we can safely concentrate on the problem.
