I'm going crazy trying to fix this . . . I'm working with a very simple header/lh column/rh column layout, but the columns want to place themselves either above the header (IE 7) of below the ehader (FF 1.5). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Give your header a height at

Give your header a height at least equal to the height of the image and remove the clear: right from the left col.
