Because you right000.gif image needs to be wider.
If you want ANY size of tab to be accounted for you would need a third image, one with the left corner one with the right corner and then one with the just the middle but.
Then you would need an extra span or something to apply it to.
Personally I would just make the image a bit longer.

Hi
It's because the background image (right000.gif) is only 400 pixels wide. When the tab gets too wide, it can't fill it. Edit the image and make it longer.

thanks guys. I realised the error after I posted this. I'll experiment and try and get a 3-image background.
