So at school (working, not being a student) I spent a lot of time on the mrexcel message boards learning Excel for my awesome backup calendar.

Their forum is based on the phpbb default (you know, the whole tables and default layout shebang) but there are a few additions that make it stand out and more fun to use.

Forum indexes have a "view your posts in this forum" link.

Threads that you have replied to have different colour text. I know we have the little white square in the topic icon which is a nice touch though Smile

There is a "report bad post" button. I know us mods do a great job as it is, and we don't really get a lot of problems on here but would this be a worthwhile addition, in the case of mods not being around?

Have a look, see if any of them would be worth implementing?

phpBB is a pain to maintain once you start adding all the extras. Every time the core scripts are updated, you have to manually trawl through the scripts to keep everything working okay, and every mod seems to introduce new bugs. As good as it is, phpBB has had its day if you're after plenty of features. The best thing I ever did for the forums that I administer and maintain, was to switch to SMF

Roy is right about being a pain to upgrade after any mods.
TPH when I retire I will have time to make the changes and keep up with the upgrades Wink

Whilst I was giving a pointer to SMF for anyone wishing to set up a new forum, I was also trying to explain how much time can be taken up running a secure and feature-rich forum. Converting to SMF would also be a major task given that Tony would want to create 100% CSS-P templates and that he is not familiar with the system. Either way, running a busy forum is very time consuming if you have a full-time job to hold down as well!
