And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

Just noticed the date today, I'm staying put , going to hide under the desk, not going out at all 8-[

I dunno... I'm quite tempted to go to the movies and see the new Omen (I'm quite a fan of the original and would like to see if they've ruined it).

Brave person Smile but what is this lunacy for remaking films? not just old films but classic films in many cases, extremely extremely dumb, these films have ben made and made very well you can't improve on that , hollywood needs a kick up the bum it's just being lazy and greedy.

It's a quick way (in that no thought has to go into a concept or story) to make a few quid, AND you get people like myself who are already fans and they therefore have at least one ticket bought by each of those people, even if it's just so we can go and poo-poo it.

I can't say I generally like remakes, except for the '78 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which I love.

John Carpenter's "The Thing" was much better than the original. But in general I agree, its a cop out that involves not having to take a risk on an unknown story.

Remakes can really work sometimes but this is just cynical, do we really need a remake of the poseidon adventure? the original was as good as you are going to get with that type of film. Oceans 11? not bad at all tried to recapture the essence of the original, but you can't better the original cast or period for style and coool.

Some bright overpaid soppy twerp will have the clever idea of remaking 2001 Smile you can never improve on classics ever, period. Planet of the Apes?? saw that the other day thought Hmm might be quite good, excellent director big budget, absolute rubbish; saw the original a week later and was reminded of actually just how good a film it was especially over the remake.

Was a big fan of John Carpenter from his first films when he was a cultish director large budgets ruined him, the Thing was ok but lost the atmosphere of the original and relied too much on effects.

Anyways this thread is supposed to be about Armageddon, the impending Apocalypse, the beast shall roam the earth and all that.

Man, that tweaks another of my annoyances. It's bad enough that you're remaking a film, but the trailers (for example "Poseidon") basically show you 99% of the film anyway, so there's no need to go and actually watch it.

Laughing out loud how true so many films have to sacrifice all the action sequences to get your attention that when you see the full film you're left with some boring dialogue, and I'm utterly sick of Orson Wells doing all the voiceovers for these trailers it's about time he let someone else have a turn.

When they show too much of a films story in the trailer, you know it's going to be bad.

My son is a professional actor at the ripe old age of 17 and has been doing it since he was eight. They're filming a new one in my town with Lindsay Lohan  and Amanda Peet  called "Bill". Even though we're friends with the casting director, he still didn't get a part but his girlfriend did.

Anyway, I can't figure how Lohan ever became a 'star' that they are rushing all these films out with her in them now. Maybe you have to be much younger to appreciate her.

True, very true, only serving to wet ones appetite in anticipation, but honestly Roy, Star Wars, I am looking forward to Xmen 3 though. Going to have borrow my nephew to get in with any credibility.

As for Lindsey Lohan , who? done nothing that I can remember seeing of any note, which doubtless means she will be a huge star.

Getting back on track with this 666 thing. I wish I could recall where I read it but it was an authoritative source saying everyone has this number thing wrong. To make a long story short, when Revelations was written, 666 was a symbolic representation of Nero Caesar who was persecuting the Christians and Jews around 50AD or so and means nothing other than that.

The news source was a report on NPR or National Geographic or something like that.

X-men 3 isn't great but it isn't terrible either. There's a couple of scenes that are very good and the rest is generally just OK.

It's a damn shame there's no Gambit in there - 'parently they offered the part to that guy with the long hair in Lost but he turned it down - shame, he'd have been perfect for it.

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

To return to Revelations, which makes sense if you think of John having written it under the influence of some fine Turkish hashish or poppy extract, the original Greek was written 6·6·6. The dots were the Greek mathematical notations for powers. Equivalent to 6^6^6, or 666, or 6^46656. That is a number with more than 37,000 digits[1]. Let's just say that the number of the beast is beyond comprehension, which is how I take his meaning. If you factor in some primo weed, did he even know what he meant?

cheers,

gary

[1] 37,373 digits actually

It's a great story though, it's a shame so much knowledge has been lost perhaps these writings were based on older stories maybe there is more to everything than we realise.

Changing the subject completely, what's the score with 'lost' I've run out of patience with it, so clearly the whole things a mind game, they never crashed and it's all some sort of experiment, the bunkers just another experiment in behavioral science. Who are the 'others' military ? scientists? just deranged nutters?

Does the show actually end? how many seasons does it run for? why have I become hooked on it ? it's really irritating.

I watched the first episode completely missed the quasi underlying premise, despite the title. Watched episode two realised that it was all a clever trick to fill a show with 10 core cast members that each have to have their story unfold in flashback thus accounting for one seasons worth of episodes, tease us with a new piece of the puzzle every third episode, yet explain nothing but add to the general mystery, lo and behold unending seasons, it's an absolute triumph of TV production.

Of course I had to see the hatch episode and the numbers on the side and I was hooked , I shame myself sometimes Sad

Anyway curiosity got the better of me and childish impatience so I found episode transcripts/spoilers, so were on for a third season  but it's all as I thought.

If you do see it - wait until the credits end - there's a teaser.

Damn it I wish they would stop doing that, I always get forced to leave before then, what was the teaser?

After the number 3 I have to agree with TPH, The Beast is the best X-Man (in the films that is, it's a much tougher call from the comics), although I think gambit turning up might have trumped him.

Was watching some pap about the "curse of the Omen" yesterday, some chappy was on there saying that 666 in hebrew/aramaic/some made up thing translates into WWW - ye gads we're all doomed/not effected in anyway at all!!! RUN/Carry on as usual Shock

Because I don't want to just post a spoiler (not everyone necessarily wants to know) - take a look at this if you want to know http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_The_Last_Stand - end of the "plot summary" section.

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

but some trailers are cinematic masterpieces in their own right, and don't ruin the story. Take the more recent Star Wars trailers for instance: sheer brilliance Cool

I quite agree. Very often they do intrigue and rouse the interest. Many people can go and watch a movie just out of curiosity after seeing a spectacular trailer.
