Why do I get the feeling this will just lead to more evil SEO type people leaching cash from companies whilst ruining the whole thing for everyone by spannering the data to trick "swoogle"

Organising and tagging data is already being done across the world with XML feeds, and bulk-analysis of that data is also already being done as described, albeit within relatively closed web systems such as OTA and GDS, to cite examples directly relevant to their hotel-booking example. This is true across a vast number of industry sectors. But by opening all of this data (and more) up for public use, it can only end in tears if you ask me.

For me this particular vision of an all-encompassing 'semantic web' is a nightmare waiting to happen.

Exactly Roy , most people at least the vast majority of humanity seem unable or unwilling to extrapolate or imagine where these various routes may lead us, that is until too late yes it's science fiction, the stuff of cheesy film plots, but it has to eventually lead towards the scenario of a single global supercomputer Still I'll be long gone thank god.

We are almost there. There are already so many automated data conduits traversing the net, and cascading-data systems where dependency flows to dependency, that the web is already starting to act like one giant computer!

For example: a lowly bod working in a retail store keys in the wrong price for a washing machine, reducing the sale price by twenty pounds/dollars. That night the feeds to a dozen price comparison sites are updated and the parent store jumps to the top of the price-rankings. All the other top stores notice the change of ranking and cut their price for that item, selling it at almost no profit. One lowley bod has just affected the profit line of a dozen businesses.

This is a lame example and not quite fully automated, but it happens now, so what are things going to be like as data integration increases?

Interesting scenario Roy with the sals assistent this is the way things are going but as much as some would like to think that they are directing this movement a lot happens that the consequence of which goes unnoticed the web has progressed at an staggering speed over the last ten years , it also is expotential in nature so what would a further ten years bring.
