My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

Help Vampires

:-k now why does this sound spookily familiar, I think someone could let the chap know that " Create resources for Help Vampires (and regular folks) to help themselves." whilst well intentioned and a good thing to do actually goes largely unnoticed by these types.

Talk about sharply observed though Smile

It would be nice though if all the regular members could read this section '#2: Cease Enabling Behavior' as that is what I have been trying to follow for a while now and it would help if others would perhaps concider the points listed Smile

Help Vampires

I've been on retreat for a while, in need of deep contemplative meditation and nourishing discourse

"Signs of Help Vampire Infestation" is sadly spot on ! Smile

Help Vampires

Quote:
You'll get good results by following this action plan for solving your community's Help Vampire problem:

1. Create resources for Help Vampires (and regular folks) to help themselves.
2. Cease all behavior which enables Help Vampires' vampy behavior.
3. Meet Help Vampires head-on.

As you can see, none of these steps endorse violence. There are no stakes, kickboxing moves, or sneaky little ampules of holy water— although witty repartee may be involved.

Excellent, that's what we're good at.

This is the MOST important bit:

Quote:
Foster thinking. Even if it's not a question you see go bye fifty times a day... don't answer it with a direct fix (unless the person is a known non-vamp, or it's a real puzzler). Answer with questions to spur (and guide) thought. If the Help Vampire resists thinking or complains, give them the URL for the Resources page and withhold further assistance.

Great article though Laughing out loud

Help Vampires

Reminds me of a thread I'm involved in now. Look at post #19 and the OP's answer and my follow-up. Could be an example in the Vampire article.Smile

cheers,

gary

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

Laughing out loud

Unfortunately, there are too many people like this. However,on all my forums I've told people to do it themselves.

it's rather demoralising when you're trying to help someone help themselves by pointing them in the right direction and then 5 ppl come along pointing out the answer!
