I am converting our church's website to stricter css coding.
First phase was to convert layout to new design, using tables. One feature is using the coding for the floating menu, from Dynamic Drive, to have a floating "Top of Page" icon instead of fixed ones.
This phase is converting the pages - adding DIVs and css.
After I DIVvy up a page the "Top of Page" function stops working.
Working page: Adults (floats, always on lower left corner of window)
Not Working : Worship (sticks to the bottom of the page)
What am I missing?
I had the same problem with a similar thingy for back to top when I added a doctype. BTW yours isn't valid, it needs the uri too:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
In my case, it was the doctypes doing it. The java had not been written in correct standards mode. I got my script from dynamicdrive, reported the problem, they then realsied most of their scripts hadn't been checked against this doctypes problem, and started converting them (the back to top one first!)
OK, another area I'm still confused and maybe my approach needs re-thinking. On my "phase 1" pass I added the DOCTYPE ... transitional. This phase I'm adding the DIVs. The next pass I will convert the submenus to lists. All this so that I present improved (to the user) webpages sooner and then go back and tidy up the technical stuff. I figured I needed to use transition at least until I got the code cleaned up. What do I lose having transition?
(I'm figuring your reply will clarify what I don't pick up from the materials, books and websites, about this - you have a good track record.)
