I decided to build our new site with XHTML/CSS and then use Wordpress to power it. Any and all comments/criticism are welcome. It should look good in just about every modern browser, including IE6, which I wouldn't put in the "modern browser" category, but you get the picture.
Everything validates except for the RSS icons on "Archives" page, and I am aware of that problem. They are missing "alt" tags, this is currently a Wordpress problem that should be fixed soon.
So fire away and let me know what everyone thinks and let me know if you see any problems in any browsers.

Looks pretty good. My only comment would be that I think the header colour and body background colour are a bit too similar.
I recently redid my site too using Wordpress and I did the same thing as you with my stylesheets.

I started with a dark gray background that matched the color scheme but it made the whole thing look too dark and depressing to me. I agree with you though, it does blend in a little too much with the header. What color would you suggest for the background?

You could maybe have a gradient that starts darker at the top and then gets lighter.

One of the better sites I have seen this year. Has a really pleasant look to it.
You do not need both the word 'Copyright' and ©, from a legal standpoint just one of them is enough.
