Anyone know if there is a browser viewing application that can be used to preview a Web page in multiple browsers and/or versions of same.

Hi

No there isn't.

You have a number of alternatives (assuming you want for free).

If screenshots are what you want (and of course that means any oveflow at the bottom of the page is missing) you can use:

www.danvine.com/icapture
and
www.danvine.com/iecapture

Which give you a range of browsers to chose from for screenshots.

Install as many as you can on your own computer. Not so easy for the mac, but there are ways to install multiple copies of IE, and Mozilla, Opera are available for the time cost of a download.

The editor I use on my PC (WebCoder v4) has a decent preview (seems like IE) and lets you add any other installed browser to the preview menu (but runs them externally and loads up your file).

There's also http://browsercam.com/ ... never used it but I've seen the results and it's pretty good (same idea, screenshot images).

For the multiple versions of IE, check out: http://www.insert-title.com/web_design/?page=articles%2Fdev%2Fmulti_IE

They're downloadable from the bottom of the page.

Also check out http://browsers.evolt.org/ for every browser old and new.

The next sentence is true. The previous sentence is false. Discuss...

http://www.zeit.ca/mozie/
MOZiE is an extremely light-weight, free Windows application that allows web designers the ability to compare page rendering in Mozilla and Internet Explorer simultaneously.

MOZiE also contains other useful features such as: various screen-size emulations, the ability to launch active pages in external browsers (such as Opera) directly from the interface as well as IE 5 & 5.5 standalone support.

see also: www.url2image.com

Consider using http://www.url2image.com to test your web pages on multiple platforms, at any screen width, font magnification and page position. The cost is between 10 cents and $1 per screenshot, depending on quantity. Cool

The screenshots are taken in real time on real hardware, then provided for you in a simple report to view and/or download (as ZIP).

HTML-Kit provides both IE and Gecko previews. It has extensive plugins and live FTP so you can work seamlessly on pages on your server. Major drawback with this prog is a confusing interface.

It is possible to run multiple versions of IE on your machine (I have 4, 5, 5.5 and 6 on my computer). Details and downloads can be found on Skyzyx's site.

PDAize is a bookmarklet that emulates the screen size of a Personal Digital Assistant device. (My site's display, do yours?) It can be found at Squarefree.

And finally, don't forget Lynx, the text only browser, available from the browser archive at Evolt. Lookng at a page in Lynx gives you a good idea of accessibility to persons with screen readers.

Thanks for the multi-IE install instruction links

Those will come in very handy. Right now we're supporting IE 5 and Safari, both on the Mac. The windows group is next, and being able to put multiple IEs on a box will definitely help. --Ann
