Apple makes XP run on macs
Again running XP on a bloody Mac box, I want OSX running on my PC, release the blasted OS so that I can run it on my superior hardware, I'm not going to tied to proprietary hardware
Apple makes XP run on macs
Well there's a reason for me to stop prevaricating and get myself a purdy Mac laptop if ever I saw one.
Finished versions of Boot Camp will be available in the next version of OSX, called Leopard, that is due to be previewed in August.
Their supply of jungly-names seems to be infinite.

I'll just get off to the Apple, Bluewater store then. not until well after August silly woman  . That's the trouble with chasing after the latest do-da.

Oh oh... backs away from thread slowly.... :-$

what superior hardware?
Is that a serious question ?

Actually I'm with HB, I'm doing a runner and not going to support my contention, it just is.

We haven't had a good Mac VS. PC debate in ages.
Now come on no ones going to seriously contend that the Mac hardware is superior to the PC are they

Oh no - don't you include me in on this one!!
I'm not knowledgeable to know the difference! I use both and I like the mac - but I'm lazy and a skinflint so I stick to the pc for actual work.

A PC can have any hardware - good or bad - whereas a Mac always has good hardware. In all the years that I have run Macs for my business (probably dozens over the years), I have never had a single component failure other than two hard disks and a battery. Unlike my current PC (which has had numerous replacement parts e.g. CD drive, power module, cooling fan etc.), all the Macs that I have retired were (and probably still are) fully working with no problems. I currently have three Macs running - one of which is a very early G3 and it's still going strong

Apple makes XP run on macs
Yeah but apart from that how are they better.
See HB thinks they are better and even says that it's superior for actual work

How is it a PC is better? (growl)

I've personally had two Macs and two PCs and actually had more trouble with both the Macs than I have with the PCs.

I thought you Mac people were upgrading to Intel at last. If you're really lucky you may even graduate to the wonders AMD and you too will be able to keep your coffee bubbling away on your processor.
Inside you now have PCI cards, ATA Hard disks, USB, VGA. Maybe one day you'll even get another button on your mouse.

If Mac´s would be better wouldn´t everyone here use one ?

In theory, yes Macs have superb color correction thing, so they're great for DTP and web development.
However, they're too pricey, you can't build your own.
If they release OSX for PC I'd legally buy it.

So, install Linux or Free BSD (the os x kernel). X-window has rgb gamma correction as a basic configuration property.

Also that which is forgotten slightly although not the case now, but did have a bearing on Macs popularity was that compared to the Windows PC there was a lack of software written for it, compared to the amount of programms being written for Windows, that and the high price of the units meant that Macs remained firmly in the professional Graphics/DTD realm, not to mention audio recording where a Mac was streets ahead of Windows for pro recording work.

This is true, Hugo, and Apple are still suffering from the reputation of those past problems today. It's not that there wasn't any decent software before, but more that most of the specific 'industry standard' software packages were not ported to the Mac, except of course for the power-hungry graphic and media industries, where the Mac has nearly always excelled.

I remember years ago when I was keen on buying every computer publication on the shelves it was partly for those free floppies (later to be CDs then DVDs) where you could get untold number of utility programmes, games , and fully blown apps, by comparison Macs were poorly served in this respect and then I would have never considered wanting to own a Mac over a PC, but was using them in a pro recording situation and knew how much better they were over windows especially for stability, windows crashing halfway through a take was never an option and also Macs had very high end spec DACs available to them costing in around a grand each, nothing similar for the PC at the time.
Thus the Mac was always perceived as a very expensive pro item for specialist professions, Quark for years was only available on the Mac and no DTP work was ever undertaken on anything else, even the mighty Pagemaker.
Apple lost out to the home market in favour of the pro end, I've always thought that was an error in judgement, but that's history, and maybe things will start to turn around, but they still need to do something about costs.

the mighty Pagemaker
Those two words should never be used in the same sentence together.

I s'pose it was OK at the time but after you've been using Quark for a few years and then have to deal with legacy material done in PageMaker, it drives you up the wall.
Apple makes XP run on macs
There was the time when Pagemaker was "it" in DTP. If you didn't have it, you weren't really a professional. There was some allowance for Amà Pro users.
Time rolls on.

I first started using Pagemaker on an Apple Classic II doing A3 layouts on a 9" screen. :? It replaced the old Ventura system we were using (this was 1991 so must've been way before Corel got their hands on it).
Apple makes XP run on macs
I learnt DTP on PM1 in the eighties - on the very first Mac pooter produced. PageMaker was the first ever DTP package - it laid down the whole concept of DTP so give it some respect please, guys and girls
Quark was built for layout artists, not designers. The two came at their roles from different angles. As a designer, I preferred PM by a long way over QE. Eventually I switched to InDesign2, which I still use today. QE was way over-priced, unstable, unintuitive and a complete (and comercialy dangerous) pain when it came to updates ...it's a bit like comparing the Mac to Windows.

back after a few days...
IE is popular ? Best Description i have heard when asking which browser the customer is using was : " The thing that is/was installed with windows" and that´s half the story about IE.
