It took me about a half an hour yesterday to realize that I was browsing this forum with all images being disabled.

I have to say that the alt tags were great:
Guru - instead of 5 stars
Smileys written out in English as opposed to Wink ;(
Every button has an accurate alt
etc...

It did look a bit different, but I thought that it was just a different theme.

Had it not been for the smileys together in a group when I wanted to make a post, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

Good job Tony!

In factm, maybe I'll go wild and browse with styles disabled!

Yeah, I tried that also. It's totally functional and doesn't look bad either.
I didn't mention it before, since naturallyyou would expect the CSS forum to be the crème de la crème of style sheets (or lack of for that matter).

/edit
It does bring up another question.
Isn't it fairly easy to mimic the CSS Forum logo (big blue italic sans-serif letters) in the html and then when using style sheets the formatted html text is hidden and replace with a picture? Possibly using the trick from Douglas Bowman. Google uses this idea on their 404 error pages for example http://www.google.com/1234, except when styles are enabled the text isn't replaced by the logo graphic.

CSS Forum with "Images Disabled"

Thanks alhasib.
I have never been a great supporter of image replacement techniques.
Although they do seem to be heavily entrenched in current web design.
Like other techniques they may lose favor as trends change.
