The web server was down for approximately 4 hours. Sad The host was having trouble with a kernel upgrade.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused by the delay, we are back up.

It seems the forum (and csscreator.com in general) has gone down a couple of times in the last few days. Problems with the new hosting provider, Tony?

That's a serious amount of cables on the 'spare' power truck!

Impressive facility too, the number of machines here: http://www.rackshack.net/images/colo/4_17_2003/11.jpg

My current host has dedicated servers at rackshack.

I'm looking at getting one for myself and then onselling some space to help cover costs.
If anyone is looking for a host for their site keep me in mind, it should only be a few weeks away.

I read on another forum somewhere that rackshack have about 18000 servers under their control.

Not a bad price at all.

Was going to say I'm happy with my hosts now, although the site is now down again! Had loads of problems a while back, thought they were sorted... I don't think they can handle much traffic.

Then again I only paid £15 (~US$25) for 1Gb HDD, 1Gb/Month transfer for a year... knew it was too good to be true. Would love to properly run my own server, eventually - my site isn't that important yet!

My current provider is experiencing reliability problems, without the excuse of exploding transformers, so I'll likely be shopping around in the near-ish future. Any idea (ballpark, even) of the likely costs of on-sold space, Tony?

Hi Sven,
I'm still planning at this stage, so can't give any definite figures.

Different sites will have different requirements for space and transfers.
For example 1 GB of space would be way too much for most single sites and having a GB of content you would expect a requirement of much more then a GB of transfers.
To put it into perspective CssCreator at the moment would take up less then 10MB including the forum database, yet it has more then a GB of transfers already this month.

What I would be looking to offer other web developers is Multi Domain space.
Which means you can have multiple domains contained in the same space as long as you don't exceed the space or bandwidth limits.

Something like 1GB of space with 15GB of transfers per month for a reasonable price to be determined at a later date. Smile
Smaller single accounts would also be available.

I'm waiting till next month which apart from being a new tax year here gives me a little time to plan this out.
Once I have some clearer prices in mind I will let you know.

Yep, just what I've found. My site uses 20Mb max (depending on other files I've got on there for other people) and top month's transfer was 60Mb. But still, for 200Mb/1-2Gb in most places you'd be paying £5/10 per month, and I only paid £15 for the year... will look for something more suitable in a year's time (and with a bit more bandwidth so's I can put some vids up too).
