Hi!

Sorry that you got that error message. Check out the site now if it works. It is valid xhtml 1.1 and I also redesigned the site. You can see the original and ver 2 by clicking the link.

So go for it:
http://www.nozzon.com/testing/test3.asp

Please let me know which design you like and if there are any problems in different browsers etc.

Thank again guys,

tursas

nozzon.com XHTML 1.1 ver 2 Please check!

Hi Tursas,
Nice looking site.
Two minor things I picked up, the hover on the buttons isn't working in IE and in firefox if the window is narrower then about 600px the first button disappears.

Hope that helps

Hi Tony!

Thanks for your comment! In my IE6 the site works fine. But in Netscape and Mozilla the left side goes "out" of the window when I resize the browser window to less than 650 px width.

The content <div> is 654 px wide and fixed.

Any solutions??

Hi

Usually, sticking a min-width in body fixes it.

Hi Trevor!

I put min-width: 654px; to my css and it solved the problem.

Thanx Trevor! What do you think of the site? Honest comment please. I can take the critic cause I am pretty novice with web design and css.

Hi Tursas

For a self-confessed novice, it's a very nice site. The only thing that strikes me (aesthetically speaking), is that there is too much red text. Maybe varying the heading colour or something. Also (a minor issue)... 'welcome' is with one 'l'.

The next sentence is true. The previous sentence is false. Discuss...

Hi, the site is a bit colorful :!:

Persoanlly, I'm not a fan of serif fonts for main text. Sans serif (Verdana/Arial) are more accessible to users with visual impairments, and I think nicer.

Red against a white background looks too harsh. try a light gray instead, one with a bit of yellow in, I would suggest #EFF0EF

And move the w3c logo's to the bottom, can you make it to xhtml 1.0 or 1.1 - looks nicer/professional if you can reach those standards.

And when the real site goes up, don't have anywhere near as much text on one page unless you have too! Especially with no graphics.

Otherwise, it looks great.

Hello guys!

I am redesigning the site. Thanks to you Guys!

I made the site to xhtml, but I ran into a problem (as usual). I want to keep those rollover buttons but it is really hard to make them work if you want the site to validate as xhtml.

I found a way to do this. The article http://www.alistapart.com/articles/imagemap/. But with this trick you have to be able to position the <div>s absolutely and that I cannot do because I want the site to be centered and fixed width.

Can anyone help me with those rollover buttons??

More comments appreciated...............

thanx!!

Hello again guys!

I solved the one problem and came up with two new ones. I also made some changes to colors and backgrounds.

Here is the new site http://www.nozzon.com/testing/test2.asp. It is now xhtml strict.

Two questions:

1. How can remove those link borders from the images? If I use border="0" then the site is not valid xhtml strict. How can I make the links open in a new window? The validator does not let me use target="_blank".

2. The navbar <div> goes out of the window if I reduce the window width.

Comments appreciated...........

For your first problem, simply add a universal rule to images on your site:

img
{
border: none;
}

... this will ensure that all images will not have the border.

As for opening pages in a new window, with XHTML Strict and onwards, the target attribute within an <a...> link will not validate. One alternative is to use a very simple Javascript or use XHTML 1.0 Transitional instead, which maintains legacy elements from HTML 4 such as the target attribute.

Still think you need some colour difference in the text (maybe the headers). Also, it would be impossible to find any links since they have been styled the same as the text. At least some indication would be beneficial.

One more thing, the rollover images on your nav bar have a delay (due to the size of the rollover) the first time the mouse rolls-over them. Are you using a CSS rollover? If so, you should check out the options to 'preload' the rollover images as so the browser caches them before actually being activated.

One such example, which seems neat (and actually isn't a preloader, but gives the desired effect) is http://www.pixy.cz/blogg/clanky/cssnopreloadrollovers/

Maybe a bit tricky to figure out at first, but is simple once grasped. There are other alternatives if you search on google as well.

One other small point.

Ditch the javascript 'no right mouse click'. You have probably introduced this to stop visitors stealing your code/graphics, but it does no good at all.
With Firefox, for instance, I can click view source and all is revealed (even the image file names).

Nice site BTW Smile

It's not what you do it's the way that you do it.
So do it with STYLE

Hi

I like that lots and lots. can't see any problems.

You know, the text looks MUCH nicer (bolder) in Safari 1.2 than IE6/Moz/Opera
