New Mac-only Browser (Camino)

I take it Camino and Firefox both use the Gecko engine.

Roy, care to give us deprived Windows users a short paragraph or two as to the virtues of Camino compared to Firefox. Just so we know what we are missing Sad.

Camino does indeed use the Gecko engine so rendering should be identical.

Firefox was based on Camino so it's very similar, but Camino is OSX native so the UI is slicker and quicker. As a Windows user you're not missing anything ...except OSX of course Wink

I've been using 1.0b1 for a week or so and it seemed stable.

I'll update and see if there is any difference. Smile

How do you guys like the fish-eye effect - where icons expand as you roll the mouse over them?

I have a job remembering everything that's happened over the years so I may have got things a little confused, but Camino used to be called Chimera until some kind of legal claim to the name about two or three years ago. Chimera was developed specifically for Mac OSX, but was the basis for the cross-platform browser called Phoenix, which was later re-named to Firefox. I can't remember the specifics but I'm very sure that Phoenix grew out of Chimera i.e. Firefox grew out of Camino. I guess you're now going to prove me wrong!

I don't, which is why I have a fixed position, fixed size Dock (which is what I assume you're talking about). As you would expect, you can configure/customise a huge number of OSX features.

Ooh, you know what? I'm liking this a lot!

It seems so much snappier than Safari and Firefox.

Plus the javascript on this site work properly for it. Safari doesn't work well with it.

This is most likely going to be my default browser. Smile
