Greetings,
I'm designing a new site, an alumni portal for GIKI. It's a one page template for the site. Here is the link for the new design: http://www.instantreg.com/giki_redesign/index.html. The original site, which is designed in tables, can be viewed here: http://www.instantreg.com/giki
Guys, please check this site and let me know your comments. I've put a lot of effort in designing this template, so please give me your comments, suggestions and if you think the design can be enhanced please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

And good morning to you.
That's the way to ask for a site check. Good for you
Excellent fixed/fluid re-design and a good-looking site. I have not delved into the code except to see the css validator is not too happy on two counts.
No doubt others will find some details that could or should be dealt with, but I believe your efforts to date have been very worthwhile.

Hello Lorraine, Thanks a lot for you reply and liking my work. It's my fourth site in CSS and I love making websites using CSS. It's very fun.
Yes, CSS has two problems and I will fix them in next upload. I believe you checked it on PC? I'm waiting for some MAC guy to give some feedback.
Anyways, thanks a lot again. Take care!

Nice and clean layout. Good use of the entire browser window. Nice effect with the boxed arrows under Alumni Services.
One suggestion...You may want to think about giving the left nav rollovers a little more contrast or a darker color. It was hard to tell that they were changing color.
Also...viewing it in win/FF1.5, there is a huge gap between your picture and the headlines section. Is that intentional for content? If it isn't, then you have a gap issue.

You get a different amount of space between the picture and headlines in FF 1.5 and IE.

Hi
You could do with having some method of setting a min-width to stop the design breaking as it gets narrower.
The actual graphical appearance is pleasing and feels intuitive.

thank you ragamuffin, Tyssen and Trevor for your replies. The space between HEADLINES and picture is a bug/issue which I couldn't fix. It's probably because of the floats.
Trevor, if I give a fixed width to the middle column then the middle column shifts downwards and expands beyond the right column. I mean that right column doesn't move with the expansion or contraction of the middle column and neither does the header and footer, they don't expand. Check this post too: http://www.csscreator.com/css-forum/ftopic14628.html
Thanks a lot again for your replies, for liking my work.

I love the colors and the color play especially in the top section of the page. I think though, the middle and left sections are a bit visually unstable; it's like some unseen force is driving everything to gravitate to the right section but the problem is, not all of them want to obey.
A solution can be to make the side with "Online Services" the same color as the "Browse GIKI" side so that you have a clear middle section. About the graphic at the middle, it would probably be best if the margin from that to "Headlines" was reduced, much better if it could be made to almost touch the base of the graphic above. (By the way, I'm viewing it at 1024x768, it seems well in order under 800x600).
Just a few thoughts. Cheers!
