Self promotion works wonders, especially if you create a tool that:
(a) makes fellow professionals feel good about their work (even if they don't understand why).
(b) you can use to impress new clients that their current websites are crap and offer to do the fixing yourself.
How long until others start advertising that their sites have the silktide rating of approval.

It could be a decent tool though. Are there any sites out there that do something similar but with less to gain from low marks on a competitors site and high marks on their own?

Hi folks,
Lorraine are you chasing me , Silktide is somewhat a good evaluation tool for proper design, content, font usage, accesibility, speed and so on, there are two criterias which you can control in minimum are, marketing and user voting.
The system gives enough clues how to make a good site and how to climb up, but not that detailed.
About Silktide website, they have some visual misfits in different browsers and I can't say I am impressed with their design capability.
Anyway, the idea is good and system is worked good till now, I don't know what will happen when the new version is launched.
Cheers,

You know I have the highest personal regard for your coding, design and accessibility abilities. However, you could be expected to say that. Your site is the highest rated on Sitescore as of a few moments ago. But I wonder what the owners of this huge/multi-page site would make of their report:
Accessibility rating Very Poor:
4 pages (80%) were found in violation of the the current W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
This website is probably unlawful in Britain from the 1st October 2004. The British Disability Discrimination Act makes it unlawful to discriminate against a disabled person by refusing to provide any service provided to members of the public - including websites.
Recommendations: Pages should be redesigned to meet the W3C standards.
How we can help.
Another report suggests that all the pages in a second site suffer the same ill health. I hope both site owners are heartened to know that Silktide can help them to comply with the British Disability Discrimination Act 2004 which is about physical access, when it was the 1999 Act that applied to services such websites
Oh yes, the first site belongs to the Royal National Institute for the Blind in the UK. The second belongs to the Australian Royal Blind Society - its URI carries a heavy clue as to its geographic location
Still the good folks over at accessify are taking it all on the chin, if not entirely seriously http://www.accessifyforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=4244

Hehe,
websemantics.co.uk* gets a perfect 10 for accessibility, but manages to get a "probably unlawful in the uk" rating.
*my #1 resource for how to do accessibility right (after Lorraine, of course).

Lorraine you are the one whom I like to hear compliments from.
Thanks. You know I don't like mentioning about these things.
Silktide is not an authority, but tools are quite helpful for building, correcting and enhancing your website. You may think it is a tool for gaining new customers for them, but it is also their generousity that they help you to make the same test to your potential customers web site at no cost. You pay nothing and you may be having new customers.
Chris,
I guess you missed a paragraph at websemantics.co.uk accesibility results:
"A page was found in violation of the current W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. However it appears this website offers a text only alternative, which is an acceptable (if less than ideal) workaround."
Take care all

Hey, look what my site got:
Marketing How well marketed, and popular the website is. 7.0 Design How well designed and built the website is. 10.0 Accessibility How accessible the website is, particularly to those with disabilities. 10.0 Experience How satisfying the website is likely to be. 9.6 Visitor rating Average user rating for this site's design (website needs more votes) No votes (Vote for this site) Overall Summary score for this website. 8.1
If I could get that marketing stuff down, I'd be simply marvelous.
Hmmm.
This website is not very popular
