http://www.the-refugees.com/ap/2/

this is the first site i have designed/coded by myself.
most of the time i end up ripping something from someone, but this time i did it all alone.

It is html and css valid.

can you please take a look at it and make sure it works?
I have tested it at 800x600 - 1280x1024 and it seems to work well in all res.

if anyone has any suggestions or comments please let me know.

Thanks!

You may want to give the "content" box an overflow; look what happens when the text is resized Shock

@zhastro - too much wider and it wont fit well on 800x600 res. And the background is bound to change. I just have to use the basic template of that one and i can have a new background every week without having to change any code.

@TPH - I will look into it. I want the top "CODE1" and the bottom "/CODE1" to never move with the content to be inbetween. I guess i will have to write some more absolutes.

Thanks for the comments - any others?

You've used absolute positioning and it is causing problems.

Take a read of this article: http://www.csscreator.com/css-forum/ftopic13756.html

@Triumph - I understand how it can begin to cause problems. but i have tried this is every resolution i have along with FF and IE and Opera and the only thing I can find that breaks the page is if the user magnifies the text. If you see any other problems could you please take a screenshot so I can see what you see what is causing errors?

See the bit that says something like "your content here"?

What happens if you add LOADS of content?

That's pretty major. Unless you hate people with bad vision.

@TPH - No problem, I was actually getting kind of worried Wink

@Triumph - GET GLASSES Cool -- Do you have any suggestions? Most people who will be visiting my page (which will soon be a giant puzzle) usually just copy the text i have and paste it into Notepad or Wordpad. So I'm really not TOO worried about the text magnification.

That's like saying: "Most people who go to sporting events can walk into the stadium." Doesn't still mean that there aren't wheelchair access points though.

I like the site...nice layout, but I am with Triumph on this one.

Yes, I do. Listen to Tyssen and Triumph or at least take it into consideration. The text can be hard on the eyes...both dark and light.

Overall I am impressed. Laughing out loud

I'm not gonna copy small text into notepad just to read it, I'm gonna use the actual text-resize function. That's what it's there for.

Good point!

Deuce - my question to you is this? Why would the user take the time to copy YOUR text into an editor to read it? I would think that extra step would push users away rather than bringing them back after the first visit.

They wont be taking it to Notepad just to read it.
But like my signature and the rest of my site

www.the-refugees.com/tpc
www.the-refugees.com/dgc1

it is full of puzzles. You need notepad/wordpad/word/etc to play with the code. You copy the plaintext over and then begin decrypting it.

You'll notice on www.the-refugees.com/ap which is my original design, the content area is actually in itself a textarea

i have taken into consideration everything you guys have said and i appreciate your comments and i have fixed a couple things that TPH has already mentioned, but the font size isn't something i consider to be a issue.

Ultimately it is your choice; and because you have the overflow, the user can increase to their own preference.

Nice design, but I do agree that it is a bit narrow.
