Hi There everyone!

Usually I'm on Webmasterworld but today I joined your forum to look for a bit more in depth CSS discussion.

I need urgent help with a college site I am building - I know it's not valid code as yet (i'm working on that today) but I have a specific question about the drop down menu used on this page....

http://www.north-gla.ac.uk/faculties/3-art/index.htm

In firefox the tree menu (on the left hand side) looks fantastic, but in IE the second level totally degrades. Can someone offer any advice?

College Website - Particular Problem with CSS Dropdown lists

Welcome to the forum. Laughing out loud

I looked at your site, and see what you mean. Before you go any further, you need to validate. You have the wrong Doctype for your markup. The doctype is 'html loose' but you are coding for xhtml. Your css does not validate either, several errors having to do with your left nav bar. Fix those and your issue may be solved.

By the way, you may want to remove the validation buttons until it validates. Wink

Overall the design of the site looks good. I especially like the header. Laughing out loud

Hi

Get ready to kick yourself.

Ready?

You sure?

Add display:inline to the li's just for IE:

* html li{display:inline} AND

That marquee is really NOT in keeping with your nice design.

Interesting!

Where do I put this bit of code (I'm not an expert!)

What's the reference to the marquee mean?

Hi

Find your css and put that line at the end. It will feed the code just to IE.

A marquee is an area where text scrolls along. I remember your site to have a yellow box with courses scrolling through. Marquee only works in IE, is not proper html and looks plain horrible. Put a reasonable sized div there in which you can see three or four courses, and give it overflow:auto in its css to give it a scrollbar to see any more courses.
