Hi everyone,

I'm coding a site in Dreamweaver MX on the Mac. I've been able to achieve the look I want when Safari is rendering the page, but when IE 5.2 Mac is rendering it (why anyone would use this browser is beyond me) I get some unwanted effects.

The problem is that I have a DIV for content that I intend to scroll vertically. Safari handles it beautifully, but IE 5.2 Mac (and I haven't even started testing it on Windows browsers yet) constantly displays the bottom scroll bar no matter what I tell it. Here's my code (it's a little messy at the moment):

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<title>FAQ page</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<style type="text/css">

//here is the problem bit:

.textbox  { position:absolute; left:215; top:20; width:365; height:225px; z-index:3; overflow:auto; padding:5px; }

.header { color:#000000; font-size:11px; font-family:arial; text-align:left}
.bodytext { color:#666666; font-size:11px; font-family:arial; }
.imagebox { position:absolute; left:10; top:10; width:185; height:250; z-index:1; }
.contentbox { position:absolute; left:205; top:10px; width:390; height:250px; z-index:2; border: 1px solid #333333; }

<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#999999" link="#000000" vlink="#000000" alink="#000000">
<div id="imagebox" class="imagebox"><img src="images/PC0201.jpg" width="185" height="250"></div>
<div id="wireframe" class="contentbox"></div>
<div id="textbox" class="textbox">
  <div class="header">Q: Example FAQ Question:</div>
  <div class="bodytext">
   A: Example FAQ Answer.</div>
  <br />
  <div class="header">Q: Another example question:</div>
  <div class="bodytext">
  	A: Another example answer.</div>

The problem area is .textbox class.

I've tried a million permutations of overflow:auto; and so forth, overflow-x:hidden; does not seem to work at all on this browser. I've tried removing the height attribute, the z-index attribute, the doctype and all sorts of things, but it does not work.

Can anyone spot what I'm doing wrong? I'm wondering about the placement of the DIVs but I'm not advanced enough to know if it's causing me any problems...
