Hi,

I am in the process of creating a website for someone I am attempting to create it using css and xhtml.

I have made a start and noticed the other day that it does not work in IE. I am suppose to show them the site is it worth fixing it now for IE or wait till the whole thing is finnished before fixing it. ??

Well, what isn't right in IE?

You should fix it straight away of course!

I'd be willing to bet that they want to see it in IE - their problem, which becomes your problem Sad

Hi

I know you aren't going to like this (coz you've probably spent hours trying to figure this out), but this might be the problem:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="css\layout.css" type="text/css" />

should be

<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/layout.css" type="text/css" />

Spot the wrong slash?

Then you have another problem. There is no sane reason to do things wrongly. You need to figure out why a browser can't find the file.

cheers,

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

Unable to replicate. Style sheet is used in both Firefox and IE.

Same here.

Try clearing your cache and refreshing.

??

What do you mean unable to replicate?

I now get the site with no layout images.

We mean it worked last night. Now it doesn't.

Here is why.

Your css file is in the "css" folder so try changingbackground: url("img/layout/img_bg.gif") repeat-y top; to

background: url("../img/layout/img_bg.gif") repeat-y top;
the urls of the images have to be relative to the actual css file.

Of course you could make them absolute instead of relative links like this:
background: url("http://www.starwithin.co.uk/brid_sam/img/layout/img_bg.gif") repeat-y top; but this adds to the size of the css (even though by a small amount it is bad practice).

The relativity of the images to the css is one of those basic and simple things that tend to get over looked but is the first and obvious thing that should be looked at when pictures fail to be seen.
