There's no such thing as a cool marquee tag.

Marquee Tags? I suppose do a 'google' search, but word has it, that it is not a good idea to use marquees on your site. Here is a quote from another thread:

Quote:
First of all, just using the tag is, by definition, abuse. Very Happy

Blinking or moving content is distracting. It affects everyone negatively, who're trying to concentrate on something else. That's bad.

People with cognitive disorders and some folks who've had a stroke have difficulty maintaining their place while reading due to movement or blinking. That's worse.

Asynchronous movement or blinking can trigger epileptic like seizures in people subject to them. That's very bad.

You may be breaking the disabilities acts of your country. That may be bad depending on whether you enjoy paying lawyers, fines, and judgements.

cheers,

gary

I am sure these responses were not what you were expecting, but it is truth. Just something for you to chew on. Smile

Put this in your usercontent.css file.

(You are using Firefox, right? Good.)

marquee {
display: none;
}

Hi

There was me thinking that a marquee was a big tent that you got the beer from at a cricket match.

Definitely something I would welcome on a web site. Interactive beer!

What? Did someone say some twisted programmer at MS thought it would be really cool to implement a completely non compliant feature in IE that really drives the users away from your site faster than you ever thought possible?

Not only is it non-compliant, but if memory serves me right, it's deprecated and non-compliant. Double whammy. A friend of mine who fancies himself a "great web designer" recently discovered this tag, so I have a feeling I'll be seeing (or not, thanks to TPH) lots of marquee tags simply because he thinks they're "cool".

Imagine the internet in 1998, and that's where he's stuck right now.

Wow, I can change the color of text with these <font> tags?

And I can make it blink with a marquee tag?

Where is an animated gif, I want it as my background!

Saying things like this, even in jest, make baby servers cry you know. I hope you're happy now :twisted:

They're not helping much as I'm afraid that things like the marquee tag are not part of serious coding - although I would admit that it would be hard to imagine us as serious coders from the replies posted :roll:

Also requests for things to be given never go down well on technical forums.

However if you must use the tag then this google search I did for you ( and which was mentioned as a avenue to follow in the second reply) turns up this link:

Hi Hugo

I clicked on the link you gave, just as I was going to take a **small** sip of beer.

I nearly gagged Evil

But, on the good side, as I teach ICT (including web design) to school kids, I've bookmarked it to show how awful a site can be.

Thanks, at least, for that.

Oh I don't know, brought back fond memories of simpler days, when we were easily impressed and eager to show our skills off.

Got me thinking of maybe doing a memory lane page; cool effects revisited. I remember a neat script that caused a shower of fireworks everytime the cursor was moved; you couldn't see to click on anything but it looked great Smile

btw: notice the site date (2001) Shock

Yay! return of the much missed marquee. Pages just aren't interesting enough without movement, this is why I am so keen on Flash because you can really make the page come alive and what you can do with navigation is just breathless.
