Perth College of Beauty Therapy
I would appreciate any comments, idea's and criticisms on this newly 'finished' website.
There are a couple of broken links which i am about to fix as well as some under consrtuction pages. The client was desperate to get the site up and was happy with these.
I have tested in FF and IE 6 but would appreciate comments on any other browsers please.
All the XHTML and CSS validates but accessibility-wise, there are a few errors, some missing Alt tags and more could be done as far as titling links (more SEO than accessibility i think)
There will be a few things i am expecting comments about - hope fully they are only the ones the client insisted on
Thanks must go to Wolfcry 911 for saving my $%^& with his help on the definition lists, i'd never have got it done in time without his help
Nice one Wolfcry! =D>
enough of the Oscar speech
What do you think?

After admiring my dl help I came up with this suggestion: you may want to push the dts down a hair with a top margin of .1em so they better align with the dds

Wolfcry 911
it actually knocked it out of whack on my FF

These things struck me:
- the footer background, top right corner. the colour doesn't match the site background colour.
- having a sharp internal corner between header and sidebar and between sidebar and footer doesn't seem right with all the other white corners being rounded.
- as I said before, the link highlight colour doesn't look so good on my screen.
- you may want to try making the white background of the ITEC logo transparent so it sits better when used on the course backgrounds.
- I think you definitely want an alt and a title on the ITEC logo, presumably it indicates the course is approved, authorised or accredited by ITEC. And possibly something somewhere on the site to explain what ITEC means and link to them if they have a website. ITEC is mentioned all over but nothing tells the visitor what it means or whether its good - all you get is a little acronym explanation one one page.
- and you could try anti-aliasing the edge of arc in the sidebar background. it looks quite blocky (but then maybe thats the intention).
/edit, I can't see the DL page, is it linked in?
- the margins seem messed up on the about us page.
left margins of 16px (h4), 0 (h5), 10px on the other two elements (p.job & p). Some vertical spacing between the elements and paras may help too.

good spotting i forgot to change that one!

yes it's something i'd like to address, will have to wait until i get back from holidays i think, as i said, client didn't want to wait two weeks longer

forgot that will amend

they have serious RULES about EXACTLY how their logo can and can't be used - so that's out of the question, i did actually email and ask when i'd finished reading the 'dictionary' of usage rules

Looks good,
Only comment is I am not fond of the green hover. Might just be the shade of green, but it is so different then the rest of the site, it looks out of place.
Nice Job

Any chance of fixing the orange curve in the navbar, antialiasing it? It's very jaggy.

The dl pages are all the main course ones
Diploma in Beauty Therapy - follow this link and it's the second large blockquote - the one with all the numbers WRB...
worked out really neat thanks to 911
jagged edge - will have a go - it's a big file tho
green hover - yes

bit 'soft' now but want to keep file size down, any tips for macromedia fireworks?

Freddy, something that strikes me is the lack of any alignment. I know you've spent a lot of time of this site, but it almost looks like it was just 'thrown' together (I'm looking at the index page here).
The nav looks too low, I think the top item should be inline with the bottom of the header.
Looking down the main content area, I would align the left side of all the elements. The image of the woman in towel has no relationship to anything. The footer information seems out of place as well.
Even in the header itself, the ITEC logo seems to have no correlation with the college name and tagline. And the tagline comes acorss as misplace as well.
Sorry to be so pessimistic, but that's how I see it. I like the color change to red, that green was agreeing with me either. The anti-aliased curve looks so much better now.
Are you sure you entered .1em and not 1em when trying the top margin on the dt? It worked fine for me here (FF/Mac).

kinda looks odd with out a capital at the beginning of the sentence. I know it reads through, but it doesn't look quite right.

Hi Guys
I have had a go at some of the issues you pointed out here
I think it has neatened it up a bit blockquoted the first para so it fits with the style of the rest of the site
shrunk and tightened the footer text
added my links and validation unobtrusively
The tagline has to be presented as is upright of b must line up with g - logo/company thingy
ITEC ius another 'must have' affiliation and has to be on white background, so little options there as to where i can put it
towel girl will be flash animation at clients insistence
wolfcry911 - don't worry about being pessimistic - that's why i'm here, i want your opinions!
Cheers Freddy
