In my current tentative forays into web design, I have come across a variety of progs that I am not sure whether I should learn or not. The question is - should I dedicate valuable time to learning Flash?

To Flash or not to Flash
I think it depends totally on whether you feel like it or not.
If you are looking to design webs professionally then it is a definite must. But if you are only dipping your fingers into web design then you can take a skip on it.
But a good way to begin learning would be to purchase or try out Swish 2.0 . This program designs flash animations the same way as Flash itself, but this is much simpler and MUCH cheaper.

hi ! i must agree with Envinyatar u can use swishmax for making flash banners and intros. is fast easy and cheap. if u want to make aplications then u must learn flash. if not i think swishmax is enough. it has some support for php interaction and from there u can make anything. learn php and mysql a lot more useful. best of luck, Ionut Popa

Personally I think flash is just something you have to learn.
It's not difficult to learn and cerntainly worth you r time.

To Flash or not to Flash
Personally, I really only use flash for cartoon pictures. I find it much easier than using Photoshop or PSP.
