Hi, I'm new to the forum, but this looks like the place to be to get some solid CSS help. I'm working on some pages and i've set a container as a background. I have the height set to auto and it shows up correctly in IE. In netscape and mozila the container does not extend beyond the banner portion of the page. I aslo had to give up on the footer because I couldn 't get it to stick to the bottom of the pages (all of the pages vary in height depending on the content). Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

I'll copy and paste my css definitions here:
#container{
background-color:#efd3e7;
margin-right: auto;
margin-left: auto;
margin-bottom: 15px;
width: 760px;
height:auto;
border-width: 1px;
border-color:#000000;
}

#banner{
position: relative;
top: 10px;
left: 15px;
width: 730px;
height: 125px;
background-color:#9c0063;
border-style: dashed;
border-width: 1px;
}

#leftnav{
width: 145px;
height: auto;
margin-bottom: 15px;
border-style: dashed;
border-width: 1px;
background-color:#d693bd;
margin-top: 25px;
margin-left: 15px;
float: left;
}
#content{
width: 535px;
height: auto;
margin-bottom: 15px;
background-color: #d693bd;
margin-right: 15px;
margin-top: 25px;
border-style: dotted;
border-width: 1px;
float: right;

}

It's still a work in progress so I just uploaded it

Again with the height on the container set to auto it looks fine in IE but horrible in the others.

Thanks for looking.

As I've just posted in another thread, it's because your left and right columns are floated and taken out of the normal flow of the document. IE doesn't follow the standards and gives an incorrect display, even though it is the desired result. Your alternatives are faux columns or maybe do a search on clearfix.

Thanks Tyssen. I appreciate the help. I'll check out the link and look into the info on clearfix.

Thanks again!!
