My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

I know - I missed it completely! I did realise it was ironic ya know

Actually it could be a bit of a laugh to have a Website of the year 1995 competition - to see who can come up with the most hideous design and STILL use valid code etc. (whoever says I thought you'd already done that can shut right up!)

Of course! It's entitled 1996 (or 5) Geocities, or something similar.

actually I've met the guy who did it. He's lovely. to quote from his site

Bruce Lawson wrote:
However, it’s also been a major pain in the arse, as Nongyaw, friends and family now expect every site I make for them to look as good as the zen garden submissions. As a design-challenged individual, I’ve found myself almost nostalgic for the multi-coloured, multi-typefaced gif-ridden designs I used to see in 1996 when I moved to Thailand and first used the web, back in the days when Netscape 3.0 was the coolest browser out.

So I’ve made a css zen garden skin, hearkening back to that devil-may-care era of joie-de-web.

It’s called "Geocities 1996".

Yes. I did not see the original post about it, and as usual I responded too quickly, without thinking about the subject. I correctly guessed it was ironic but I should have been 100% sure. The trouble is, I get asked to review sites produced on a voluntary basis for a global voluntary organisation, and a large number of these look very similar to this homage to the nineties. The sad thing is that the creators genuinely think that they have created masterpieces of web communication and wonder why companies even think about paying someone else to design their sites. God forbid

It looks scarilly similar to the first thing I ever did , god was I proud of that, cutting edge stuff.

Lets be honest who hasn't got one of those backed up on some old floppy gathering dust.

Ah nostalgia, who doesn't desire a return to the good old days, eh ? a life less complicated with real values.

I'm glad HB reposted this site, first time looking at it.

The animated background is brilliant!

Remember the Talking Heads video, "Once in a Lifetime?"

This is my big chance . . . yep, I blew it . . .
