Ok on here, http://www.maxedge.net/maxtest.html , I have some questions I want to ask you. Number one, why can't I get all the three parts of the content body to line up? I mean, the percents are all right but the last one keeps on going to the bottom (in Mozilla Firebird). The similar problem in Internet Explorer is the content body doesn't go flush with the side of the window. Also, I want to get the bottoms of the bodies equal too.. I don't know why they aren't. And also, when I define height as 100%, I'm trying to say, "Fill up all of the screen that you need to, " but it doesn't. How do you do that?
For a summary of what I'm trying to achieve, http://www.maxedge.net This one uses all tables though..eck.
Can anyone give me some solutions?
The lining up thing - keep the percentage a little under 100%. If you set the widths of the DIVs to total 100%, and you add 2 1px borders in there, you've got 100% + 2px which isn't going to fit.
Although with that design, I'd float the left and right bars, and just give the middle sufficient margin/padding to not write underneath the bars once they've finished.
But I need it to span the whole width. If I have it just below 100%, it won't span the whole page. Any suggestions?
Should I just go back to using tables?
If you can limit only one column to be a % width or fluid then it is possible, with the layout generator http://www.csscreator.com/version2/pagelayout.php
There are other layouts around and some do a good job at it. It really depends if you need every column to be a %??
Yeah, sorry, my second suggestion wasn't well worded...
What you do is float the left bar left, the right bar right, then make the middle bar fit the page, and add in margins left and right to 'avoid' the left and right bars. This way the middle column isn't given a specified width but #should# fill out the space.
