iPod Touch in truth; an iPhone without the phone.
The model for mobile devices that all others will be based on. Simply works! Simply works really really well!

I've been keeping an eye on Android phones, they are looking pretty slick.
Currently I have an iPhone but as it is tied to itunes syncing on Linux is really annoying via a virtual machine. I am also having wi-fi troubles and can't upgrade as the system as the virtual machine is somehow incompatible with the latest release.
I have downloaded the Android SDK and started playing around. Well worth having a look at if you are comfortable with Java. Unfortunately I don't have the time to get into it as much as I would like.
We are going to see a big increase in the number of Android phones available over the next couple of years.
Can you make the iphone option, iphone/ipod touch.
I'm like Hugo and have an ipod touch. I'm considering an android phone as my next phone partly so I'll have access to it for compatibility testing.

Can you add a BlackBerry option? Especially considering they are still the number one sold device with 40+% of the market.
Ok better late then never, Blackberry choice added.
I assume my laptop is a portable device and it's the only thing I ever browse the web with when I am not at home. Laptops aren't one of the choices, so as mine runs Vista (please don't tell anyone) I checked the "Windows" item.
Watch out! I am carrying irony, sarcasm and satire, and know how to use them.
No, a laptop's not a mobile device. The Windows option refers to Windows Mobile.
I've just got an Ipod Touch, so that's my choice.

OK, I guess I missed the subtle difference between "mobile" and "portable" device. Though, when I stick my laptop in my backpack it goes along with me when I am mobile.
I should have worded the question differently. I was really interested in seeing mobile phones used on the web and how they are used.
I could have just used stats:
I think people mainly use mobile phones on the web for social networking (Facebook, Twitter), news and RSS feeds, quick searchs for specific information. Possibly devices like iPad will change that a little as they should be better for general browsing.
Well, I have a brother who uses a blackberry mostly for email and phone calls, or did the last time I was around him, which was a good year ago.
My iPod Touch is now set up with a number of aps; FTP, SSH, control panel app for a VPS server, RDP for other servers, text editor; so in theory the Touch becomes my lifeline, hope not to have to test it but I can perform essential tasks if necessary when out and about and all from something that fits in ones pocket. The iPhone/Touch/iPadd is virtually the perfect mobile devise it is also what should be available to those people that can't really cope with puters running full blown OS as it's pretty much foolproof.
They are nice, well made products, what I really hate is being tied to itunes. It must run better for those using Macs, I just tried to use itunes on my wifes xp work machine and had to give up as it was too slow. I have the same and more issues using it via virtualbox on linux.
Had to laugh at the iPhone4 antenna issues where you have to hold it a certain way to get a network.
I have issues with the nature of iTunes surprised more people aren't vociferous about it's manner in tying you down and it's not clear just how it works until you are hooked into using it. It doesn't work as smoothly on Windows, and I have unwittingly used up all my allowed instances of iTunes ?? and am not allowed to activate any more without removing one from a machine - go figure that one? Problem is that as an app in general it makes things so easy, a one stop shop for all your media, all very clever of Apple.
You will have to post a pic of you hanging out the window holding iphone by the top left corner, horizontal and back to front trying to join a network
I don't have an iPhone4 but there's heaps of stories and youtube videos showing the reception drop as you hold the phone.
My current phone is the iPhone3 but the wifi is completely stuffed so I can only use the expensive 3G network. I'm looking at getting an Android phone as I seem to be turning into a phone junky even though I hardly use them as a phone
At least with Android I will not have to use itunes and wifi will work.
I've had to get a man bag I've so much stuff to carry around at times, but I refuse to carry any of my male face grooming products otherwise I'll just get the piss ripped out of me.
The new Samsung Epic 4G looks like a nice phone, I don't have an iPhone I use my touch for looking at pages and i can't seem to justify the cost just to add a phone feature to it, however the thought of a second device with android is appealing
