Over the weekend I gave the CSS Layout Generator a long overdue update. Over 872,000 templates have been generated since it was first released at the end of 2003. That's a lot of templates, over 100,000 per year. Towards the end of next year it should hit the 1,000,000 mark. For a tool that has been so popular, quietly chugging away in the background, it was looking pretty old. So it was given a fresh face lift. I reorganized the form components to fit together better. Added basic HTML5 support, doctype and tag type selection for the columns. Converted most of the custom JavaScript to jQuery. I'm pretty happy with the results.
One of the things that I am most proud of is the colour selection component on the Layout Generator. Built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript by merging 1px wide links of different colours into R,G,B colour bars. The preview area is updated as you hover over the bars and you set or release a colour by clicking on the bar. I was a little worried back in 2003 that people wouldn't be able to work out how to use it. Yet in all these years I don't remember receiving any complaints about it. Now is the time to offer criticisms, complaints or even praise about the colour selection component or the CSS Layout Generator in general. Help make it even better.
Impressive figures Tony, It
Impressive figures Tony, It be nice to know if they translate into actual and real web sites, cos that is a significant contribution you've made to helping people develop their sites, haven't looked in a while but would hope that you stipulate an acknowledgement and link back to csscreator/yourself even if only in source files.
Thanks Hugo, I do put info in
Thanks Hugo, I do put info in the source but don't stipulate that it gets kept. I imagine and hope that most people would make significant changes before they release a website based on the generated files. I used to search and find many of them had left csscreator in the page title.
Woops I just checked and had left a path to my local system instead of the server path, so none of the files were getting generated. fixed now
Tony, What a great

Thanks flamenco.

Ok I should put a switch in the code that checks the host so I don't do it again.

I uploaded a file the other day complete with my debug stuff for testing, after I had stopped being puzzled
as I was sure I had turned of error notices globally I added a wrapper to only run it if localhost or my fixed IP
N.B. Hmm nested quotes seem to have an issue?
incredible
