Why for are all topics being locked as soon as they are a few weeks old? I've just gone to update a topic about iPhone apps and it's locked? ...and so are most others. What's the thinking behind this Tony?
Gone are the days when I could unlock threads myself

I noticed on my blog that
I noticed on my blog that link spammers would often hit older posts hoping that since they aren't on page one that I wouldn't notice. Spam attempts went down considerably after I locked older posts. Maybe that's the reason.

But on a forum, any new post takes it to the top of the list, so if someone/thing is going to spam then it doesn't matter which topic they choose. I just don't see the point in locking posts unless someone is flaming them. But I'm ready to learn if I've missed something.
Edit: The system thinks this post is spam!

News to me topics getting locked but I have unlocked that one Roy, please add away as I'm going to have to spend some time thinking about mobile deployment feel as though I've left that side of things too long need to get in line with current practices.

The moment is gone, or rather my wife is back from shopping and demands my company. I'll update the thread when I get more time, and will include a link to my first mobile web app.

I am responsible it was part of the upgrade. We had a bit of a run with spammers picking up old posts and it was suggested we close comments. At the moment it is set to automatically close after a month, we could change this to close commments quarterly or a year or remove it altogether.

I dont think thats a good idea.
First basic few steps in building a webpage
1. Gather and collect content.
2. Organize the content into meaningful semantic valid HTML
3. Design the prototype
4. Style using CSS

If you're saying that ALL old posts were being spammed then you've gotta do what you've gotta do, but I would have thought that any open topics would be suitable targets no matter what their age. Do we know how these spamming apps determine their targets and/or frequency? Whatever you do, FWIW I think one month is too soon.
