OK, this is the first test of my ASP.NET MVC content management system. If any errors pop up, let me know. This is the first time I've created a layout that wasn't one of my hobby sites, so don't expect much. Normally that's done by someone else and I just do the markup, CSS and backend programming. I'm not sure about the color of the font with the background of the main content section. Any suggestions welcome. Please do suggest layout changes.

The header images are

BTW, the header images are "borrowed" and not intended for release.

1. surely you can handle that

1. surely you can handle that one validation error.

2. You can do without so many divs. for example, you footer can be a simple paragraph tag.

3. that h3 should really be a paragraph, since its not really a heading at all.

4. whats up with all that JS with such a simple page?

5. I dont like the 3-d hor. rule thing you have in the background, doesnt really fit the design very well.

6. Consider making the h2 a different color then body text, and maybe even a different font.

7. That sidebar needs some attention. Needs more styling done to make it look good.

Its not bad, but not done either. keep at at!

First basic few steps in building a webpage
1. Gather and collect content.
2. Organize the content into meaningful semantic valid HTML
3. Design the prototype
4. Style using CSS

AH, I missed the encoding on the specials output in the CMS. #1 fixed. How embarrassing. Sad

That's a good point. It should, in fact, be a paragraph. There are 8 divs left. Is that really too many?

CupidsToejam wrote:

The heading of the sidebar, maybe?

CupidsToejam wrote:

Just the cycle plugin and jQuery.

CupidsToejam wrote:

It's moved since I changed the height of the header. It used to be right at the bottom of the cycling image.

I'm considering making the body text background different. I'm not sure I like the color for readability. Opinions?

Your suggestions are very wecome.

Well, now you know why, in the past, I've left design to others. Smile

lets take a look see...
1. #logo div doesnt need to be there, just style the img and span tags
2. #header doesnt need to be there.
3. #navbar doesnt need to be there.
4. #headerImage doent need to be there, and should be a list.

Keep in mind, you are not breaking any rules by using so many divs. Its just a matter of keeping the code clean.

My original statement remains my opinion. For design inspiration, I find myself searching other sites for ideas and inspiration. Go find some css galleries like csstea, or css vault. Dont copy what others do, just get inspired!

Better?

I dumped a few of the divs and reworked the CSS to match. Thanks for the tips.

I'll work on the sidebar a bit and see if I can come up with anything. There is supposed to be an image that goes with each daily special that should liven things up a bit.

It's almost as if you lump me into "those hated backend developers". I'm not that plebeian. Wink

Believe it or not, that was almost high praise Big smile

You've asked about the text a couple of times - I think the contrast is fine but something is off and I think it's the *gasp* text is a whisker too big for the leading in this case. Try 96% or 97% or something. It's going to be difficult if you're trying to keep that page above the fold. Need to see it in English too really.

This is filler text to show you what the paragraphs will look like, honest. No need to read any more. It's just filler text. I needed to fill the space. If you could be bothered to pay for my service this could possibly be changed to relevant text that may or may not concern your business. Actually, I wouldn't care what is here after you pay because I'm gone. Maybe I'll hit the booze store and celebrate this paragraph. Maybe I'll hire a lady of the night. Maybe I'll donate to a charity or go to church and confess the drunken lusts of the other occurrences you've allowed me by paying. Thank you. End.

What do you think? That should stop the questions. Tongue
