Using Visual Studio daily and looking at it for 9 hours a day sometimes the eyes aren't very happy at the end of the day.
I've been messing with the environment settings and the stock setup (basically black and a few colors on pure white) just burns into your retinas. Looking around the generally accepted modification is white and bright colors on black:

I find this far too stark and not much better than black on hot white.
My current setup which seems to be a bit better is this:

Less stark contrast, much more comfortable to look at all day.
If anyone can show their modified color scheme for their environment, if you find it purposely more comfortable for staring at all day, I'd be really appreciative.
For the accessibility experts what are generally accepted as good, comfortable color schemes for readable text?
I got mine set up like this...

I find this very easy to stare at for very long periods, and as an accessibility expert, this color scheme is ideal.

How about some screen shots
How about some screen shots of your text editor so I can see what you consider comfortable. I'm just looking for some ideas to lessen the eye fatigue and headaches.

You sure you don't need glasses
Truth is I've been feeling as though my eyes are suffering lately and I'm staring intently at bright screens for far too long with insufficient ambient light.
TFT/LCD kinder, safer on the eyes?. I have a feeling this is not the case?
My editor/s all have paper white backgrounds - soft coloured text though but don't think that's sufficient

I've always adjusted the brightness and contrast on every screen I've ever used. Most people have the brightness set FAR too high for my comfort.

When I did a lot of word processing I even changed the "paper" background to a cream or blue-white, pink-white etc. - whatever took my fancy at the time basically.
Versch - the grey background isn't too bad to work with, you could even lighten it a bit. You should also be able to change the colours of the text (tags, elements etc) till you find a mix you find comfortable.
I can't remember if Komodo came with this yellow (yes it is a wee bit bright) but I know I changed the text.

So far the example on the light grey is what I've come up with. I may darken the colors a bit more.
