We have reached a significant milestone, 10000 members.
I'm sure we have helped many more people come to grips with the challenges of CSS.

Nice going Tony. Did you expect it to be as popular as it is when you first started it?

Hi Tyssen,

No not really.
I think 500 seemed achievable but I couldn't imagin 10000 people interested enough in CSS at that time.
Now days, CSS has become much more popular and we would have played a small part in that.

well done Tony. I don't know what I would have done without you and this forum and all of those that have helped me on my web development journey. I've learnt so much more than just css techniques.

Congratulations Tony

I've learnt a huge amount by hanging round here - thank you for such a wonderful resource and thanks to everyone who contributes to it.

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

True, but do the 9,000 Friendster members count? Has even one of them posted a legitimate question? Something other than 'Can you make a CSS background for me'?

Who knows which Friendster members will want to learn about CSS properly ...and if/when they do, they'll know where to come with their properly structured questions (I'm an optimist - can you tell Wink ).

Of the 10,000 pre-friendster members, how many unique individuals have posted—ever? It just doesn't matter. A lot of people will join a forum such as this, read the posts for entertainment or edification, and never post. They may make a post or two or may never post. They may get what they need and never return or they may lurk, off and on, for ages. More importantly for this discussion, they may have clue or be completely clueless about how they should act in a professionally oriented forum. It just doesn't matter.

What does matter is that we, as the 'senior' members, show each post and poster a modicum of respect. If it has become too much of a PITA to answer helpfully, then simply move on to the next post. Those of us who do choose to answer a clueless post should take the opportunity to show these folks the right way to act in a forum in a non-derogatory way. Those who insist on remaining clueless deserve a public rebuke, but let's give the merely ignorant an opportunity to learn first.

cheers,

gary

NB: Wolfcry, this isn't aimed at you. Your line provided an appropriate segue into my rant. Wink --gt

gary, I agree with you. Honestly, I do. I just get fed up with posts like this:
http://www.csscreator.com/css-forum/ftopic12943.html
http://www.csscreator.com/css-forum/ftopic12948.html
http://www.csscreator.com/css-forum/ftopic12955.html

I now do what you suggest and move on to the next post. It's just amazing that a month ago we spoke of making 50,000 posts or 10,000 members. Then friendster links CSS Forum and - BANG - we have nearly 20,000 members. But in that time frame we've only increased post count by some 3,000. Of those: 2,600 are from Jeff Cool and some 200 are from Friendster background wanter. I've come to terms with this, but post my frustrations in off topic threads like this one. Cool

My belated congratulations! Also a warm thanks to all the helpful members who are studiously trying to take CSS into the staple diet of web development standards.
